Are they on the verge of war?

https://amwaj.media/article/exclusive-iranian-top-diplomat-due-in-us-amid-fears-of-iran-israel-war

iran's foreign minister reportedly going to new york

"The slated visit to New York comes as Iran and the US continue to exchange messages in an apparent effort to avoid an expansion of the Gaza war. According to some unconfirmed reports, Tehran may be ready to stand down—provided that Washington compels a cease-fire in Gaza."

Let's hope not, but Ali Khamenei has made himself pretty clear already, saying Iran's “brave men” will punish Israel and one of his advisers has warned that Israeli embassies “are no longer safe”, and two officials recently told the New York Times they will retaliate directly against Israel.

Question Author

not a surprising reaction really is it. but there is a big difference between talking tough and actually going to war... if the reports about New York are true then it's still possible to avoid a full on war between the two countries

Iran won't have an all-out war with Israel they'll just have their scum-bag terrorist lackeys make more cowardly strikes here there & everywhere.

I seem to recall during the 2nd Gulf War whilst the coalition were slugging it out with Hussein the Israelis wanted to independently take out Iran's Nuclear facilities which they considered a potential threat. The Americans pleaded with the Israelis not to do so for some reason and the Israelis acceeded to their wish. I bet the Israelis won't make that mistake again considering the grief they have had with Iran backed terrorist organisations.

Question Author

Iran's economy has been on a war footing for several years now... it is pretty much self sufficient in fuel, steel, and food... they also have an absolutely huge fleet of drones

it won't be like iraq in 2003.

No. A war against a nuclear-Weber state which they don't share a border with? Unlikely

Question Author

Iran's nuclear facilities are probably underneath mountains retrocop so taking them out would erm not be straightforward

That's what Bush jnr told the Israelis. Given the chance I believe they could and would have.

Untittled - Hi - good question - I suppose we have to wait and see. Attacking embassies takes back to the peloponnesian war (300BC) - if you didnt like an embassy ( person) you  got tortured and killed.

what amazes me is that is a GAza question by extension and it hasnt been zapped. Perhaps some things DO change

The israelis took out the nuclear concentrators ( ultracentrifuge) with the Stux virus

but that of course just slows things up until they replace them

Meanwhile tragic news, which can only increase Israel's resolve to see off Hamas: According to Yaron Avraham on Channel 12 Israel news, Hamas has told the mediators that it does not have 40 hostages in the humanitarian category that are still alive. That is a category of women, children, the elderly, and the sick. The number that they say is alive, which is significantly lower, has not been made public. This, of course, is a serious obstacle for the ceasefire talks that seem to be progressing.

that is horrifying khandro

they did withstand an eight year war with Iraq which was pretty horrific and their country has grown an awful lot stronger since then... i think it is unwise in the extreme to underestimate iran.

i wonder what your view of azerbaijan is toratoratora because that is also a muslim country that is very supportive of israel (and vice-versa)

great once again I am not allowed to debate, thanx what ever genius mod removed my post above.

Sorry untitled I am not allowed to answer you.

"they did withstand an eight year war with Iraq which was pretty horrific " - yes but they were like a couple of cave men with a club. This would be like a caveman against a tank. US beat Iraq in 72 hours. In all out war Iran wouldn't last a week.

Iran has been threatening Israel for decades. Ahmindejad was calling for destruction of Israel about 20 years ago,

What Israel needs to do is make sure than Iran can never build a nuclear weapon, and believe me Israel has already done lots to stop that happening

Question Author

Iran today is nothing like Iraq was in 2003 tora... they are much stronger economy and much better equipped. if israel and by extension the USA went to war with them (as Israel seems desperately to want) then they would be the strongest military opponent the USA has faced since world war 2. they are not going to be a pushover and it is hubristic to underestimate them!
