The Cons biggest donor has said that looking at Diane Abbott makes you want to hate all black women and is saying she should be shot. Frank Hester who has given the Tory party £10m ..is certainly supporting the Nasty Party then.  What a nasty person . He definitely is a Tory supporter then.

Again - whataboutery.

At what point did Ms Abbott say any individual should be shot?

webbo3

i was interested in you point about Abbott's comments about nurses.

The source I have quotes her as saying:

"I am sure that these young women are charming. But they are basically here to improve their English and are unlikely to give the British health service a lifetime's commitment.''

Her comments were seized upon by the hospital, nursing unions, and politicians, who accused her of avoiding the real issue of staff shortages.

Ms Abbott later said: ``The issue is not one of colour - the issue is that people should not be recruited from overseas in an area of mass unemployment.''

However, nursing unions and the hospital - which has written a letter of complaint to Ms Abbott -were annoyed that she had written of her surprise that the hospital had chosen ``blonde, blue-eyed girls from Finland, instead of nurses from the Caribbean who know the language and understand British culture and institutions''.

"The British invented racism."

Not invented it - but bloody good at it. We should not pretend otherwise. We should learn from history.

White people live playing divide and rule.

Not now but definitely historically correct.

Suggested London taxi drivers are racist.

Other way around!

"Reportedly said"

by whom.

...and I asked earlier when it was that she'd said anyone should be shot.

Would you agree that whatever your political opponents say, saying they should be shot oversteps the line?

//You 100% should be able to criticise Abbott (as you have here), but when you say she should be shot...//

I don't know about your whataboutism but there appears to be a few  puttingwordsintoother'smouthisms. I most certainly did not suggest Abbot should be shot. Please show me where I have written that.

Would his 10 million donation earn him an ermine trimmed gown and a seat on the the red benches?

You're right about puttingwordsintoother'smouthisms

I wasn't saying *you* said this. The use of the word 'you' in my sentence is reflexive not directional. Although using it three times in short succession was pretty sloppy.

Change it from 'you' to 'one'

Ugh

sp...

Where does this word 'athiest' come from? It can't be predictive text, so I suppose it's just a finger slip. I'm not often addressed directly on here, but it often comes out as 'athiest'.

And now you, of all people.

//but when one say she should be shot...//

Ugh

If Ms Abbott was talking white people playing divide and rule in the past, wouldn't she have used the past tense of 'love'? As she did not, the reasonable assumption is that is what she thought at the time she said it. Spin it as much as you like but that was racist.

Deskdiary

ive just checked the quote - and you're right. It was said in the present tense.

However - that's irrelevant. People can paint her as badly as they want to - but it doesn't excuse anyone saying she should be shot.

People who should be shot. Simply being a loudmouth, a race agitator or politically incompetent doesn't mean you should be shot.

If it did then Tommy Robinson, Katie Hopkins  and Lawrence Fox would need round the clock protection.

Prudie"I said no such thing" But you did say "He said it years ago" .     Naomi" I said no such thing  either" But you did say  this happened over five years ago".So you were both implying that it's all done and dusted now so let's forget about it.

'The British invented racism'

In 1988, the year after she was elected to Parliament for the first time, Ms Abbott told a black studies conference in Philadelphia that 'the British invented racism'.//

> Do people see (say) Ant & Dec and feel a hatred for all Geordies?

A better example would be Jeremy Corbyn. A direct comparison. But there is no way on God's clean earth that Frank Hester would have said MP Jeremy Corbyn made him "want to hate all white men" and that he "should be shot". And that is why what he said was both racist and misogynistic.

This will have a miniscule effect on voters intentions no matter who much the usual suspects are jumping up and down.

Questions about leadership will affect undecided voters ...

The British are not good at racism !

It's just hyperbole said in private, which had a race and sex aspect to it, but was hardly racist or sexist.  Indeed he reportedly said he didn't hate all black women, which is probably the reverse of sexism & racism.

That pointed out, it was a ruddy stupid thing to say, but I guess as a donor, rather than a public figure politician, he felt his private comments weren't relevant or likely to be picked up and debated.

Pretty much a storm in a teacup, made public and debated because of the imminent GE.
