If they are not banned, I do wonder what reception they may get ?

Not a good one!!

It's very unfair on the teams and players though.

Sorry I was thinking of the sports side of things not the OP.  I think they would be very short of votes!

CL  //I think they would be very short of votes!//

They wouldn't be from me, because  on October 7, Hamas fighters stormed communities along Israel's southern fence with Gaza. At least 1,139 people, mostly civilians, were killed, some others raped along with beheadings & other assorted atrocities, and about 240 others were seized as captives as hostages.

Why should I not give them support in a stupid song-contest, even if I can do little else?

If they were banned would they be able to change their name and sneak back in?

No Israel have done nothing wrong, why would anyone suggest banning them?

Yes purely on the basis of the "Music"

This is not about whether you would support them or not although this thread might pointing in that direction.  Israel is losing a lot of support now from the average man in the street. It's pretty obvious.

That was to Khandro.

CL // Israel is losing a lot of support now from the average man in the street.//

To paraphrase Dr Johnson,  "Then sir, the average man in the street is an ass!"

Khandro

You wouldn't be able to vote for the Israeli entrant.

It's not how the contest works.

Great use of cut 'n' paste though.

Props

Khandro.  I'm   not getting into a conversation about the Israel/Palestine situation on this site ever again.  This is in the entertainment arts category.  It didn't need your update on the war situation

The contestant is Eden Golan. Presumably she wishes to reach the Golan Heights ...

Born in Israel, raised in Russia, and political: She dedicated the song to the more than 130 Israeli hostages still being held in Gaza. "We won't truly be OK until everyone returns home," she said.

untitled - "our governments hugely sponsor israel and have been very supportive of its genocidal actions in gaza"

So who made you judge and jury deciding their actions are genocidal?

"You wouldn't be able to vote for the Israeli entrant. It's not how the contest works"

Well, it is how it works actually.

Eurovision deserves the right to ban entries if they are seen as too "political". If that was their decision based on such criteria then fair enough. Israel should not otherwise be banned as a matter of course IMO.

///Khandro: To paraphrase Dr Johnson,  "Then sir, the average man in the street is an ass!" ///

I think you've got the wrong source, it was Charles Dickens (who has Mr Bumble say,"... the law is a ass" ).

Please let me know what quote you are referring to if I'm wrong.

"Well, it is how it works actually."

Really...how?

Like sport, ideally politics should stay out of music.

You can vote for any country's entry bar that of the country you are voting from

Three months since the diabolical October 7, the genocidal assault continues in the ongoing forced disappearance, kidnapping, separation of child from parent, husband from wife, hostage-taking, degradation, and ongoing torture and abuse of the hostages. Some fear some of the female hostages may have been impregnated by their captors. Yet not a single perpetrator, Hamas operative, or Hamas commander has been prosecuted and Hamas missiles continue to target indiscriminately massive swathes of the Israeli population. Every day the 136 remaining hostages (27 of whom are feared dead) remain captive is another genocidal assault on Israel.

So, let's ban them from the bloodyeuropean song contest.
