TTT; Yes, there's something about being familiar with the fickleness and danger of the sea that arouses the human instinct to help those in distress. At home they might well be unhappy with immigration, but when it comes to the crunch out in the elements they do what's natural.
So fortunate that fishing vessel was there at that time . Well done .
Can’t help wondering what would have happened if they’d been French trawlers?(I’m assuming they were Brit trawlers)
To be honest, I really have no sympathy with chancers who were not in danger and who could afford to pay the scum who charge them. I do have great admiration for those involved with the rescue.
Zat you, miss? If yes, good to see you back.
Snackrite, I imagine that French trawlermen would behave much like any others, whatever nationality, in a 'civilised' pirate-free place like the Channel.
Naomi. Yes its me. Lucky to be alive and back. I've had sepsis and recovery is long. I have found questions that I can help with or have thoughts on. I need some brain stimulation to get me through the winter months.
I'm hiding up in here away from Chatterbank!!
naomi and NJ, of course the 2 tragedies are comparable, 7 deaths (so far) in water in freezing temperatures. Yes, it is a shame on society that humanitarianism at such an awful time can fly by with alacrity and apparent disregard for human life. I have no shame in my earlier post whatsoever. I am as entitled to post my opinion as any other here, which is what I did and I stand by every word I posted. It matters not an iota to me if you disagree.

Bobbisox was spot on with her remark about equidistance from the look of the map put out on the BBC website:

Thanks to TTT for his link. (The video has now been included in the BBC report.) The story reports a collapsed boat and I wonder if the floor has been breached. I also wonder what is the safeload for such a vessel in terms of the number of people it can safely carry. 43 saved and 4 who perished - 47 passengers seems excessive to me.

Thank goodness for the proximity of the fishing boat and prompt attention from all those who rushed to the scene. People who rescue others in peril in the sea do not worry about nationalities, thank God.
Oh no! How awful! So pleased you’re ok.

I wondered why you were ducking down in here. Safer?
Don't need the hassle Naomi or the silly ignoring. Not prepared to play childish games. Having been through the last six weeks has put things in perspective. I was seriously at deaths door.
Sorry to hide in Roy's thread, but at least I contributed!
Choux, grown men who made a deliberate and totally unnecessary decision to take to the sea in winter in a small boat and came unstuck does not compare to the tragic deaths of little children playing innocently. I stand by my posts too. I know who I shed more tears for.
I must admit I agree Naomi. There is no comparison. Loss of life is sad, but if we take massive chances we shouldn't expect too much sympathy.
When you went knocking, lottie, I’m so pleased he was out. Welcome back - in more ways than one.
^ Thank you x
First rule of trying to stay alive,
1,Don't get on an over crowded leaking rubber ring and try and paddle accross the sea.
Darwin awards are busy this year.
Welcome Back Miss T. Sorry to hear you've been so poorly.Hope you are now on the road to recovery.
Do you have a preference for a name, L or Miss T or perhaps Gina Lollobrigida:-) x
Choux, believe me, there is no comparison, and if you think that, then you need to work on your thought process.
