What a surprise!

How can Russia ever be included in the family of civilised countries. I think they should be expelled from the UN.

Don't associate 'Russia' with the mad behaviour of its maniac of a leader.
Not from the UN but certainly the security council.
The UN cannot function properly until that happens.
Russia is plainly a threat to world security
who'd have thunk it eh?
China: annexed Tibet
US: invaded Grenada
Russia: invading Ukraine
France: sank ship in NZ

So that leaves only the UK in the security council.
// US: invaded Grenada//
yeah but no but
they didnt stay
they stayed long eough for the prime minister to be shot.
Navalny challenged them to sentence him to 100 y !
Havng been poisoned, he goes back into the country

conscript in Ukraine wrote to his mother: an old man has just thrown himself under our tank

the courage is beyond belief
The other countries jno mentions have not consistently thwarted the activities of the security council over the years.

On several counts Russia disqualifies itself and it could be done were the will there
how much thwarting do you have to do? The point is that every single permanent member of the "security council" has invaded another country, because it wanted to.
"Don't associate 'Russia' with the mad behaviour of its maniac of a leader."

He's not doing it all himself.
douglas //He's not doing it all himself.//

He's not doing anything himself, the coward is a long way (879km Moscow to Kiev) from the firing line.
He's not doing it himself, but he could stop it in an instant.
I don't doubt that, Khandro, but there are many mentalists in a country that size, possibly poised for a power trip.
They seem to have a completely different world view.
“ how much thwarting do you have to do? The point is that every single permanent member of the "security council" has invaded another country, because it wanted to”

Which spectacularly misses the point at this time of course.
It plainly is not just about Putin.

ichkeria, you were suggesting it could be done if the will was there. The point I'm making is that neither the security council nor its permanent members have any moral authority to do it. Russia has merely done, to a greater degree, what they've all done. Membership of the council is ultimately about military rather than moral power, and Russia's using its military power right now.
Yes it could.
And I realise that that will does not, for now, exist.
I’m disappointed that you talk of “moral authority”
I suspect that says something
about you I would care not to dwell on
The UN is a collective. No one nation can throw out another. And dumping them out of the UN would achieve exactly nothing.
> Russia has merely done, to a greater degree, what they've all done

A bit like occupying somebody's house against their will while they're living there is the same thing, merely to a greater degree, as stepping into their front garden against their will while they're living there.
it is, rather, Ellipsis (though "stepping into their front garden and blowing up their boat" might put it more fully), but the question is still where you draw a line. For other council members to organise a putsch would inevitably be a cynical ploy saying "our invasions are okay, yours are not".
