Pity the wee un seems to care more about being contrarian than she does about her public.

Devolution is the worse thing that happened to the UK. It's taken us backward to medieval times. Queen Nicola of Scotland. We are a small nation of four countries. Same laws and rules should apply

wolf: "I don't know of one person who hates the English, but we are tired of being considered second class citizens" - well every Scot gets 110% of what every Englander gets, it's us who treated as second class. The problem with many Scots. and Nicola is a prime example, they have a 4x2 on their shoulder.
".... by people who should know that we are all British. " - I agree 100% but it's many Scots who do not consider themselves British, several quite rabid about it on here.

pat: "But surely England should have its own devolved government as well." - no the last thing we need is another talking shop "parliament" - reverse devolution and go back to how we were before St Tony ruined it.
You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.
Tora. It was very tongue in cheek when I wrote that!! I just wanted to point out that it was the English that were missing out. Never would I want to be devolved!! I agree completely with you. But why do the Scots think that we treat them badly?

19 14 What a pot and kettle answer, just how two faced can you get TTL.

"We are a small nation of four countries. Same laws and rules should apply"

Do you mean just COVID-19 laws or laws in general?
what a load of tosh and I am far from being a Caviar fan - not least she and her husband cannot or will not explain the missing £600k in funds. However, on Covid, they have one of the highest UK infection rates - as does Zimmerset from what they were saying on the Boiled Bacon & Cabbage news this evening. Removing masks etc - another example of our beloved giverandtakements getting things wrong?
//Are you saying that she is wrong to make us wear masks for longer? Do you have the data to support your assumption?//

Absolutely. Covid is now endemic in the UK (all parts). Everybody will be exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, probably multiple times in their lifetime. A piece of flimsy cloth will not prevent that exposure. Scotland has had harsher restrictions for longer periods than England. It now has a greater number of infections (per capita) than England despite England relaxing restrictions (including mask wearing) much earlier. Maintaining face covering rules in Scotland serves no useful purpose and it is simply grandstanding by the First Minister in an effort to show how much more caring she is.

//On what basis would that be decided? If cases were very low in England but very high in the other three countries, what would you expect to happen?//

I would expect all the home nations to take the above view (which is largely that finally adopted by the Westminster government). The best thing – in fact the only thing - that the population can do to protect themselves against serious Covid symptoms is to get vaccinated. Trying to avoid exposure to the virus is pointless. At least half the population has almost certainly contracted it and probably a greater number than that. It's simply a matter of when, not if the remainder will be exposed to it and the only variable is how serious their symptoms will be. If people want to do all they can to avoid contracting the virus they need to buy an FFP3 face mask. If they wear it and treat it in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, it will give them around 99% protection whilst they are wearing it. If they want to maintain that level of protection they will have to wear it every time they leave home and if they live with anybody else they will have to wear it at home too (unless all their housemates do the same).

Sorry folks, but the era of Covid restrictions and regulations is over. The government has announced that all travel restrictions into the UK will be lifted from Friday; Heathrow airport has announced that face coverings will no longer be required when in the airport; BA has announced that face coverings will not be needed on board their flights if they are not needed at the destination; other airlines are expected to follow suit. All it needs is for the First Minister to catch up with reality.
"The government has announced that all travel restrictions into the UK will be lifted from Friday;"

That's only because Scotland, Ulster and Wales have agreed with the English decision.
"...several quite rabid about it on here."

Come on then, we're among friends here, name names.

Or are you a paper tiger? X
40,000 new covid cases in Scotland since Saturday, 81% of those the Omicron BA2 variant.
No one but a big fat stupid clown would ease restrictions in the face of that contradictory data.

gromit, you've had a thrill for 2 years, it's over, get used to it.
//That's only because Scotland, Ulster and Wales have agreed with the English decision.//

Well, as with most of the nonsense thrown up by devolution over the past couple of years, it would have been pointless for them to do otherwise. A passenger can land at Bristol and be over the Severn Bridge in half an hour. Or land at Newcastle and be over the Scottish border in an hour or so. Mind you, that's not to say they wouldn't do it. So many such pointless actions have been taken by the devolved administrations which could only be devised simply to be contrary to the Westminster government's decisions, that it would come as no great surprise.

Laws in general Corby.
20.31 Would that happen to be a straw headed clown with a thatched empty head.??
//No one but a big fat stupid clown would ease restrictions in the face of that contradictory data.//

Why not? Everybody will be exposed to SARS-CoV-2 regardless of whether or not they or those around them wear flimsy face coverings. The 40k figure in Scotland demonstrates that the virus is so widespread that wearing inadequate face coverings is futile. Are you saying it would have been 80k if nobody had worn their flimsy masks?
PAT, "Laws in general Corby." Given there have been separate legal systems in Scotland, Ulster and England & Wales with different legislation in each for centuries before devolution, why only now, should there now be a common legal system?
