Ukrainian forces reportedly recaptured Mykolaiv airport

A lot of abandoned military hardware around there

(Mylolaiv is a port up river from the Black Sea, between Kherson and Odesa)

I don't know the geography of the area but could anything helpful be moved into Ukraine via the sea/river?
Why are the threads closed? They should be left open and available for further comment.
Nothing's prohibiting further comment on the topics raised in those threads. But it's convenient to have the previous ones closed since this enables a more-or-less continuous narrative to develop across the threads. Also, it's standard practice on other discussion boards to "migrate to" a new thread, eg because the previous thread gets overly large, or because people have mostly stopped using it anyway, and close/move on from previous ones. This had already happened with Part Two, even before it was closed, as people had abandoned it for a full week.

Jim, It isn’t convenient and this isn’t another discussion board. The only reason threads here are closed if is something in them contravenes the rules - and none of those threads are guilty of that. They should be reopened and made available to anyone who wishes to continue to contribute to them.

"I don't know the geography of the area but could anything helpful be moved into Ukraine via the sea/river? "

I don't know how much if anything can currently move in and out of Odesa now. Russia controls the sea there now.
Losing Crimea in 2014 of course was a huge blow for sea access. Mariupol is a major port on the Azov Sea (the large inlet of the Black Sea to the east) but the Azov is also controlled by Rudsia.

The short answer therefore to that currently is "no"
It's the same thread.

Old threads drop off the "Latest Posts". It's normal on AB, e.g. with dieting threads, fantasy football, monthly quiz roundups, etc. etc. to start a new thread.

What the point would be of looking in "latest posts" and seeing "War News Part 1", "War News Part 2", "War News Part 3" and "War News Part 4" I don't know ... it's one continuous discussion.
Ellipsis, it’s not ‘normal’ to close threads that don’t contravene them rules.
It may not be normal, but it is useful. Otherwise we'd have several "war news" threads running in parallel.
It isn’t useful to those who wish to add to them. Those who don’t can ignore them.
It's one continuous dialogue in multiple parts. You can add by adding to the most recent part. The threads are in series, not in parallel.
Ellipsis, people often add to threads that have dropped iff the front page. I’ve known the Eds to add to threads that are many months old. Closing threads for no legitimate reason simply isn’t right. It’s an abuse of power.
LOL, no it isn't, it's simply keeping the place shipshape and Bristol fashion. There is only one abuse going on here, and that's coming from you and aimed at Jim. I am sure if the Eds do not like Jim's maintenance of the multiple "War News Part n" threads they will let him know. Perhaps you can draw their attention to it ...
I actually find it much simpler when the thread doesn't get too long.
It's a bit ironic having a petty squabble about a horrible war.
Naomi // It’s an abuse of power.//
I presume that you know who closed the threads?
Danny, read ellipsis latest post. I’ve nothing further to add.
Thanks Naomi, I missed that.
I (obviously) don't consider it an abuse to close threads that are old and on the same topic, when a new thread posing the same question, that is more likely to attract attention, exists. The principle being applied here is simply to keep things well-ordered, nothing else. Any further comment on the matter is for the Editors alone. Of course if they object to the approach taken, then I apologise in advance, but it was well-intentioned, and the suggestion that it's an abuse of power is unnecessary, not to mention a gross overreaction in the circumstances.

"abuse of power"
are you aware of the irony?
Ich I read your threads
interesting and informed - I dont worry to much

it is the content not the location, and I would still read them if you put mille fiori - or Does Bolsonaro pick at his colostomy?

Macron is trying to be an international leader and had the honor of ebing told that Putin war aims would be achieved by force or negoatiation ( it took an hour to say that)

someone us asking about irony on AB
about as common as a three legged donkey
