Whenever I watch U/C I still expect them to say his name, even after all these years.
I use to like watching him , probably 40 odd years ago, very entertaining even tho I rarely knew answers. As a kid I use to think the teams were sitting on two levels like bunkbeds I hope they show one of his old shows as a tribute
They were on two levels like bunk beds.

RIP Bamber

Thought you'd have provided proof, roy:-)

RIP Bamber
RIP my teenage old(er) man crush.
I don't mind just loading the gun, Ken.
RIP Bamber.

Now, if they'd just get rid of the dithering, bumbling, muttering Paxman...
I agree, LiK - since his Parkinson's diagnosis Paxman has been struggling with the questions; particularly noticeable in the programme introduction when he has more words to deliver.
gg - I was unaware that he'd been diagnosed with Parkinson's & now feel that my comment might appear harsh. I offer my apologies for that, but still believe that he should bow out of the role before the next series.
Just as an aside - how spectacularly annoying was that smug, preening King's captain last night. Pity they won and we''ll have to endure him again :(
RIP Bamber

I used to watch UC when he hosted it but haven't watched it in a long time.
I liked Bamber. He seemed such a nice mellow man. RIP.
Hello - I was going to post exactly the same thing!

Bamber was a legend. R.I.P
RIP Bamber.
Always kind to the contestants when pointing out why he reasoned they had come to an incorrect answer

Unlike the snidey Paxo

RIP
RIP, the best ever host of University Challenge ...
Bamber Grass-groyne
we asked him why he didnt put in more science questions ( one only often not one per program)
and he said no one can answer them
and we said - - well if you put them in....
the logic defeated him

Noted Plotinus got a re-run, fresh airing last night - neo platonists
Horovits got that when we were on ( er 1970)
He also knew that Prince Essenin was a poet studied in Russian secondary schools whereas we only knew him as the luffer of Isadora Duncan
//Now, if they'd just get rid of the dithering, bumbling, muttering Paxman... //

I was once in the audience of a Paxman UC filming of UC.
Pre-filming, I was actually surprised at how genial Paxman was.
So much different from his TV persona once the cameras started rolling.

Anyway, RIP Bamber. Legend!

I remember, (as a teenage, evangelical christian,) watching his documentry ''The Christians' for a few weeks in the 80's.
It helped to make me question my beliefs...
