First Six Pilot Projects Selected to Offer Free Bicycles for School Age Children.

As part of a series of commitments delivered by the Scottish Government within its first 100 days, the new pilots will test their approaches across the next 12 months and will be fully evaluated. They will test delivery models in urban and rural locations, across primary and secondary schools ages and trial various procurement models. The pilots seek to include local bike shops and will explore opportunities to maximise benefits for the local supply chain, including recycling bikes and encouraging a circular economy approach.

The pilots will test a variety of ownership, loan and subscription models and undertake various methods of assessing need to ensure inclusion and accessibility. Pilots are linked to existing community networks across schools, charities, cycling clubs and active travel hubs – all helping to determine what the best models of local delivery could look like. TC 12:47, yes when I was a saucepan we'd scrounge what we could to make a bike, now I see hundreds abandoned that I could get going in a few hours with parts I've already got!
Sooner Scotland goes the better.
I wonder why the "canny" Scots are being conned by this woman. Surely it's only a matter of time before the SNP becomes a busted flush.
What other commitments have they delivered within its first 100 days?

Aye, laugh away Naomi but read up on your history first.

Are you seriously comparing brilliant Scottish inventors with someon who thought it would be a good idea to give bike away - with other peoples money?
They certainly need to do something in Scotland to improve the general health

Why is it so bad there when they have all that beautiful open space and countryside ?
You would expect the population to be far healthier in such a setting
Not sure any Scot invented the bike....unless Karl von Drais was born in Glasgowberg.

It is he, a German inventor who is credited with developing the first bicycle. His machine, known as the "swiftwalker," hit the road in 1817. This early bicycle had no pedals, and its frame was a wooden beam. The device had two wooden wheels with iron rims and leather-covered tires. Having said this, the invention could well have been Scottish, a boneshaker, no accessories like pedals etc, thereby keeping the costs down.

ynnafymmi, where does all your bile come from? Must be very tiring trying to bring every initiative down. At least this initiative will benefit ordinary people unlike in England where it is just the greedy (not the needy) who line their own pockets.
Maggie, you are funny. :o)

I do not think anyone claimed a Scot invented the bike but it was a Scot who came up with the pneumatic tyre thst was first used on bicycles I believe
mags, you do realise where most Scottish money comes from don't you?
sb, when you quote someone, put some sort of marks around it so we know you are quoting it rather than it's your own outpourings.
If you give folks something (bikes or whatever) they won't value it and it will end up getting trashed in short order. You value stuff you have worked & saved for.
davebro, bang on.

Yes TTT I do know where most of Scotland's money comes from. Do you know where most of England's money comes from (and goes to for that matter)?
That's a strange argument, maggie. If you're criticising England's source of income and a proportion of that income goes to Scotland, you're criticising a significant proportion of your own income.
