Seems the current liberal left Government, clearly being driven by the Prime Ministers piece installed in No 10 (Princess Nut Nut as DC referred to her) , is intent on turning this country into a third world basket case.

For one:
Target - Cut meat and dairy consumption by a fifth over the next decade

Impact - Someone who has meat for every three meals could only do this twice a week under the new plans.

Similarly, the average Briton would need to shave a fifth of the average milk consumption down to 16ml a day - or roughly three teaspoons.

Really?

Any chance of India or China reducing theirs or are they going to power ahead while we shot ourselves in the foot with impossible green targets?

And here is the rest:

Target - Cut meat and dairy consumption by a fifth over the next decade

Impact - Someone who has meat for every three meals could only do this twice a week under the new plans.

Similarly, the average Briton would need to shave a fifth of the average milk consumption down to 16ml a day - or roughly three teaspoons.

Methane is produced by rotting vegetation not meat. Going vegan will result in humans producing the methane instead of the meat animals.
I gave up cow's milk years ago and substituted it with almond milk. The only meat I eat is chicken due to a health problem.
bhg //Methane is produced by rotting vegetation not meat//
Not true, most methane is produced by cows breaking wind.
//Ruminant livestock can produce 250 to 500 L of methane per day.//
i don't ever drink milk, can't stand the stuff.
as to the government being Liberal Left, don't see that at all.
i eat meat every day in one form or another, chicken mostly
admittedly, or pasta with a filling like chorizo, chicken.
we aren't going to turn into a basket case, how many people
truly take note of what any government tells them to do, pandemic excepted.
Sunk, when I was kid a lot of people ate meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Bacon and egg for breakfast, ham sandwich for lunch (or tea) and meat and veg for dinner (or lunch). There was less obesity back then.
danny, cows don't eat meat.
Absolutely ridiculous, nobody is telling me what to eat no matter what the reason.
danny - it's the vegetation that cows have eaten that rots creating methane. The vegetation is broken down by the cow's digestive system.
Barry //danny, cows don't eat meat.//
Who said that they do?
"Barry //danny, cows don't eat meat.//
Who said that they do?"

They did before the BSE scandal!
Thanks for that JIm.Whichever end it comes from the fact is that cows produce methane and that is why a reduction in the consumption of red meat is being advised.I suppose the thinking is that less beef consumption less cows will be required.
That just means that we eat vegetation instead of the cows and we produce the methane.
Is it just me that can't make any sense of the OP?
Just wait until she get wed to him , then the fun will start ,You ain't seen nothing yet.

//Do they eat a lot of meat in India? I thought they were quite into vegetarian cuisine. Holy cow!//

This all goes further than meat - and yes many Indians eat meat or fish but generally not cow.

Everyone happy about being forced into an expensive heating system - that at present doesnt work? BTW its more than the 10K touted here by the DM as I looked into it as I was interested to see if I could install it. More like 25K. Not sure how all our pensions are going to pay for that.
i think you are panicking over nothing, these won't come to pass, not in UK, people will still eat meat, drink milk and get on with their lives same as always
