I have voted in every General Election since approx 1945.
However today I spoilt my paper.
I put a line through all the candidates, and wrote in large bold letters "Expenses".
Now,I expect many ABer's to scold me for this, but do you know I couldn't care less because it made me feel better!
Our constituency is a safe Conservative seat,,so losing my vote won't make a ha'porth of difference.I was just so angry over this and it seemed my only way of expressing myself.
I rest my case.

Spoilt vote,rage against the machine
-- answer removed --
did all your candidates claim undue expenses? I had a choice of two MPs (because of boundary changes) and I chose the one with the lower expenses claims. If you're angry about expenses claimed by your MP, vote against him/her. If you're not, why take your anger out on him/her for the misdeeds of others?
If it made you feel better Mr V, then that's the way it should be!.............Good on you!...........................
I can sense all the candidates losing sleep already !
I know you feel passionately but your vote will just be discarded as "void"
i always stay up and watch for the fantastic live oh $h!t moments for some mp's. quality entertainment that just cannot be put in context elsewhere. just over an hour and a half before kick-off. almost better than the world cup (mainly because its mostly over in one night!) x

Thank YOU for your support(in general).as this may be the last General Election I vote in I just had to do something, purely selfish I know, and purely pointless, but not to me.
BTW.Elsie voted (and did not spoil her paper),but I do not know who she voted for.Isn't it odd,in nearly 61 years of marriage that is the only secret we have ever kept from each other.
Of course as I don't know how she voted she may have done the same, but I don't think so,Elsie is the sensible one in this marriage! LOL
jno,
I can't vote for anyone (all MP's now) that I have no respect for.
cazzz1975
I do know that, but I did this for MY feelings, and I DO feel better for it.
61 years ?

OMG ... congratualtion, Mr V ... that's fantastic !!!
Good for you for expressing your opinion and telling it how it is!!

Thank You JJ,
I thought everyone on AB knew,I don't say all the time cause it gets boring to hear an old fart wittering on about his marriage!LOL
As I said earlier Mr V, as long as you feel better for it, then that's the best thing for you!......................take good care.................
That's not boring, Mr V ... it's brilliant.
I was going to draw on a box saying "None of the Above" but I didn't. I don't know what good my vote will do, but I maintain that if you don't vote, you can't complain afterwards. I've got to leave the house at 615 tomorrow morning so no way I can stay up for the results!
Question Author
Sorry boxtops,
But being 87 I don't have much afterwards to complain in! LOL
and if I do I shan't complain,it has never done ANY good any way since I first voted way back in 1945.
I second what JJ said, you are never boring!.................
I know Mr V, but it's the principle of the thing. My view (I guess I got it from my dad) is that the chance to vote is a Good Thing and may be the only way to get the vox pop across to Them in Downing Street.
.. and PS our seat is a marginal, so it will be v. interesting to see what happens. The local predictions pre-vote were not surprising but not much to my liking!
Question Author
Well boxtops you are lucky that in a marginal your vote may count.
We are in a 22,000 majority (last time) and this seat has been Conservative since a decent voting system came into being years and years ago.
As I said,I have never done this before, but this is my only way to protest.I feel emasculated that I cannot get home to these MP's how I feel(as a pensioner) about what they have done with the thousands of pounds of expenses(including our own MP).
So yes I wasted a vote,do I feel bad about it? NO.
I shall not probably get another General Election to vote in i,so I have gone out (well to me) with a bang not a whimper! LOL
Question Author
PS boxtops:~
In nearly 60 years of voting NO voxpop has EVER gotten through the front door of 10 Downing Street, and never will.
If we had proportional representation, which is in force in NI Wales & Scotland I certainly wouldn't waste my vote. However, none of the three main parties will ever bring that in,it would be too fair, but above all they would lose seats to the minority parties.
