I’m one of those who’ve got a holiday in the pipeline booked for June for my husbands 80th birthday ,it’s a third time cancellation , but se la vie,if we don’t get that’s life , there’s always the log cabins not far from us in beautiful rural Northumberland :0)

The aviation industry will have far stretching implications and may never recover , travel,airport,shops,hotels, all jobs lost but I agree ,going to another country thats going through a third wave,is madness !

No emmie I was being facetious, this pandemic has upset everybody and affected us all in different ways. I'm sick to death of the one thing ABers persistently describe as selfish idiocy - foreign holidays. It's been a very big deal to me and I've shed tears but not going to a hairdresser hasn't bothered me at all - however I've been empathetic enough not to come online and tell those who want a haircut (or a drink in a pub) that they are selfish and mad.

sorry Prudie i misunderstood, i hope hairdressers will open when they were told they could, i know many pubs have gone to the wall.

I don't understand the mindset of the holiday-haters on here and the fact that on numerous threads over the months people have been described as "idiots", "selfish" and all manner of other things for having the bare-faced temerity to want a foreign holiday.

It may run and run if people go abroad in the middle of a third wave!
Holidays can be taken later, law can be changed again.
I feel more sorry for the many small business owners who have lost their business rather than large holiday firms

It's been illegal to travel abroad just for leisure since before Christmas anyway and during several periods last year. This is not new, it's just enforcing the potential punishment.

The new coronavirus laws, due to be introduced on Monday, suggest anyone who leaves England for a destination outside the UK without a reasonable excuse could face a £5,000 fine.

Anyone travelling abroad has to fill in a "Declaration to Travel" form, stating a valid reason for leaving the country, such as education, work or childcare
