Covid: £5,000 fine for people going on holiday abroad
Question Author
A £5,000 fine for anyone in England trying to travel abroad without good reason is due to come into force next week as part of new coronavirus laws.

The penalty is included in legislation that will be voted on by MPs on Thursday.
It's a fairly typical Tory solution. The rich (Boris' dad, for example) can still go on holiday, but not ordinary people.
Whilst it may seem harsh, we cannot risk going into another lockdown. We have family abroad and it's been very upsetting not to be able to visit them and we haven't seen them since December 2019. We can't risk people returning from holidays where there have been high incidents of Covid and putting us back to square one. This needs to be handled very carefully.

Boris dad has taken French citizenship and i think is or has moved to France.

but to make it law, that;s going to make a lot of people very unhappy. i did also read that if one does get away that coming home one must self isolate for 10 days.....not sure if that is the case but also harsh
Emmie - the self-isolating for 10 days rule if you've been abroad has been in force for some time already.
Seems a good idea and hopefully a boost for the uk tourism industry before the next inevitable lockdown

So what is your solution?
Question Author
get people travelling again, sooner than later.
We need countrys to accept us plus 100% testing before return and on arrival plus quarantine in hotels for at least a week with more tests. People generally dont follow existing self quarantine rules. If anyone is still considering travel given 3rd waves in Europe and the crowded airports with queues then good luck but rather them than me. It can be looked at again in autumn when most should be vaxed and much of rest of holiday destinations abroad
I always thought vaxing was carpet cleaning?

bobbinwales, this is going to become law, suggest read the link, if you haven't already
get people travelling again, sooner than later

Given that Europe is currently suffering a third wave and the English variant is rife I have a feeling that the Brits will be persona non grata for a month or three so that will prove difficult
It may not be package holidays to tourist places there trying to deter as they may not happen anyway .
It may be all those travelling to places like Pakistan and back to visit family
Question Author
not going on the news recently, Spain, Greece are begging for tourists from UK,
If you think that’s bad, someone in the Isle of Man was jailed for breaking quarantine!
why anybody would even want to go overseas during a global pandemic escapes me
