I think he didn't have too much respect for rules per se, a bit of a non conformist who didn't see his own flaws.

Chill, I didn't realise your thread had been closed. I'm sorry if you thought I was complaining about it. I wouldn't have been fussed how many threads were running or who got the most answers, I just thought it rather disrespectful that someone closed and removed mine when no Site Rules were broken.

No hard feelings I hope x
I'm sure some people like him more than they would have if he hadn't stuck his fingers up to England on that particular day :-)
It was disrespectful and hypocritical.
There are often 2 or 3 threads running on the same topic. Why were you singled out?

Seems the mod responsible won't take responsibility for it though.

Some of the nicer stories about him:

https://www.sportbible.com/football/news-take-a-bow-legends-the-brilliant-story-behind-diego-maradona-playing-in-charity-game-20201125

https://talksport.com/sport/boxing/794409/diego-maradona-boxing-match/

https://www.goal.com/en/news/553/russia/2010/09/30/2143690/diego-maradona-raises-the-roof-for-charity-in-moscow-penalty

... and so on.

The English will never forgive him for the Hand of God incident and will never accept the brilliance of the goal that came four minutes later, while the England side was still "reeling" rather than knuckling down to recover. But when you look at where he came from, what he had to put up with from a very early age, how everybody wanted a piece of him, the background of the Falklands War ... it's not surprising he was as he was and things went as they did. If football gives you any enjoyment then he was a brilliant entertainer, even in the warm-up ...

Thanks for the post elipsis . :-)
Listened to Peter Shilton on the news, yes it was sad he said but they never got to 'build bridges' now it's too late
The reaction of some people on this site, and you'd think he was a war criminal or something.
Mozz he was a brilliant footballer but his brains were in his feet, similarly Gaza's
Yep, same as George Best, who was revered on the other thread. Oh well.

Everytime I look away another answer is removed.
He was a coke head and a cheat.
^^^ Good point Lady
Yes Ummmm. George Best was an alcoholic and a wife beater. What's your point?
ummmm: "He was a coke head and a cheat. " - I need a lie down, ummmm and I agree!
I do like you really, TTT :-)
We could just concentrate on the great football both of these men played. Very talented, great entertainers .
-- answer removed --
Mozz - we're not talking about George Best though.
Bet he was good to his old ma though.
