Zacs://That’s a persons view of Muslim reform in the US, Khandro.// I may have picked the wrong video, but there's plenty more, also his book, The Strange Death of Europe, plus an excellent piece specifically on Macron's stance, in this week's Spectator (which I hope isn't behind a pay wall);...

not sure how helpful or enforceable it will be
Question Author
Ultimatums usually come with consequences. There must be some but I don't know what they are.
Looks a good thing, in that it will prompt some kind of response and then we'll see where it goes.
it will result in more deaths in France, there's is a lost cause, not sure percentage of the population is Muslim but it beats our hands down
After all banning the burkha worked there right????
Freedom isn't free, and Macron is showing, on this issue at least, a Churchillian determination to stand up for his country and its values.
Our lily livered politicians could learn from him.
it will result in zilch, you watch someone do another Charlie Hebdoe.
France is now a divided country, their Muslim population is huge and has been a souce of dissent for many a long day. They won't take kindly to being told what to do. I predict that this will have little or no impact. UK has something like 3 milllion Muslims and by and large we haven't seen the problems that France has and will experience in the not too distant future. What do you expect our
politicians to do close all mosques, too late for that....
we don't have lily livered polticians, we have ones who don't want division as there is in France. Macron can lay down the law, see what it gets him, more French dead
If Naomi were here i suspect, though i can't be sure she would agree with me
What is percentage of Muslims in France?
According to a Pew Research Study of Islam in Europe, an estimated 8.8% of the French population is Muslim. This is higher than the estimate from Institut Montaigne, and would be the highest percentage in Europe. The Muslim population is expected to continue its growth in France due to migration, conversion, and high rates of natural increase.
Question Author
Doubt Naomi would agree with you, emmie.
You could be right about an upsurge in Islamic atrocities. That would not be a signal to back down. It would be a signal to crack down harder.
As for the number of Muslims in France, I think I've seen 10 or 11%. As we're repeatedly told, only a tiny minority indulge in Islamic terrorism.
i got that info from a reliable source SR
but if they rise up en masse, demonstrating about their rights, and the right for someone not to make light of the Prophet Mohammed. then that;s a lot of people. Ordinary Frenchmen and Women must wonder what they let themselves in for.
wait for it to kick off elsewhere where there are large Muslim populations, they will take offence at almost anything it would seem
Question Author
If you're talking about the % of Muslims, what does it matter? I'm agreeing with you, they have far more Muslims than we do. x2 or 3.
All the more reason for us to 'crack down' now.
we won't crack down, but if Macron thinks that by giving ultimatums to the Muslim population then he is pandering to the rest of the country
and won;t have any effect i fear,
Question Author
A lot of ordinary British people wonder that too, emmie. And why.
Question Author
Probably doing it with one eye on Marine le Pen.
But I still applaud him.
No we havent ( done it)
completely different there - it is abroad
( yes purposely writing down to AB level)

they have a different state - church separation ( laicete )

and a difft imperial history - the north african areas were represented in Paris house of communes as a metropolitan area - member for sidi bou said etc

( and still does - in the French commons there is someone for outre-mer, which is tahiti - and the uni there is part of the sorbonne)
// All the more reason for us to 'crack down' now.//

( there are more of them ) wonky logic there
thank god I wrote it at the level of nine year olds

is the the french the english thread only more?
o god it has to be AB on a dank morning
