Zacs://That’s a persons view of Muslim reform in the US, Khandro.// I may have picked the wrong video, but there's plenty more, also his book, The Strange Death of Europe, plus an excellent piece specifically on Macron's stance, in this week's Spectator (which I hope isn't behind a pay wall);...

U cannot be rational with those who are irrational....
when was the last time you watched an open debate on Islam in the 21st Century in relation to this country. We don't have them, at least not on tv that i can see.
Islam is a wonderful, intelligent, compassionate religion - with a number of lunatics involved.

Very like Christianity, I would hazard...

A
to those adherents to the faith they are rational....
a number, do me a favour.
when was the last time you witnessed a Christian martyr behead someone. The fact is Islam is a major threat to world peace, never mind just in the UK, France.
"Talking to the Imams is the right way to go, many of them are spreading distorted, medieval views"

I get that but some Imams are merely underlining and cementing already held views bcos of individual interpretation.

I dont think it will be easy to separate the culpability of the Imam from the folllower.

U can imagine also the outcry and want for recriminations if tough action is taken against any Imam.It will be seen as a violation of the faith.
// The charter will state that Islam is a religion and not a political movement //

it's a religion, yes - but to its adherents, it's more than that, it's a complete way of life. there are even rules governing use of the toilet - http://www.myreligionislam.com/detail.asp?Aid=6096

we have been sloughing off the chains of religion in UK, Christianity is on the wane, but Islam as been said is not on the wane, its increasing exponentially across Europe. As Mushroom points out its a way of life not some thing you can slough off.
The irrational (radical Muslims) may be the minority but how much of a minority? What is the extent of the threat posed? Raising terror levels give a clue.

The intention of the charter is to be applauded but realistically I dont see it having a significant impact.

You will never defeat a group whose ideology is so skewed.
no you won't.
its why i said, this idea that you can slap down the followers of Islam, isn't going to work, good luck to Macron for trying....
No new laws will break a radical.

Their book is the only set of values that count.
Some battles can never be won.

Only containment is possible here.
France should have done something about this a long time ago, those dissenters like Le Pen, were just called names for their views, right wing fascists comes to mind, was she so wrong.
In the scheme of things I dont think whoever is President that it makes a huge difference.

Attacks are happening throughout Europe and beyond.
they could have done something a lot sooner, like not let this so called religion of peace have such a foothold. Now its too late.
some years ago building works at one of our maintenance depots gave the staff some shiny brand new welfare facilities. shortly after they were open the admin staff were receiving complaints of "misuse" leading to additional work for the cleaning contractors. when this was looked into, it came to light that in rebuilding the facilities, the toilets now all faced the Qibla, which was contrary to the rules of the (fairly sizeable) islamic portion of the workforce. it seems odd the company never considered this, but there you are. no amount of b011ockings handed down altered the misuse issue and in the end, the company have had to hire a portable module - facing the right way, of course.
Now he just has to work out what to do about the 50,000-plus known radicals roaming freely across Europe.

I applaud Mr Macron’s initiative but I fear he is making the mistake that many make (including many here) of assuming the people he’s targeting share his mind-set and wish for better integration. I don’t doubt his efforts will be a red rag to a bull but nothing placates radical Islam - nor ever will - so any attempt at appeasement is futile. I think some of the people he is targeting will make the right noises as the Muslim Council of Britain often does … taqiyya (basically lying to the perceived enemy) is perfectly legitimate within Islam and a very useful tool …. but it won’t cure the problem. Nothing will. All credit to him for making a stand though. I hope others follow his lead.

//Islam is a wonderful, intelligent, compassionate religion//

And he calls me an idiot. How funny! :o)
Agree Naomi, but still feel it's too late.
