ichkeria, //anyone can do it if they want and they’ll be a better man//
so have you signed up to give a spare room then, these people have broken the law.. or another word..taken the proverbial pi@@ on our laws, we have plenty of homegrown homeless already, do the dinghy men deserve more help...fill the uk with homeless people, logic suggest we fix our, again homegrown problem first, nah just keep
letting it get worse, think brazil and favela's https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/news/how-to-stay-safe-around-brazil-favela/
//If Lineker does indeed give up one of his bedrooms,…//

He’d have less sense than I granted him with, ken, and he’d be doing nobody any favours. Word will get round, i.e. “Come to England and a famous former international footballer/senior politician/minor celeb may find you a room in his or her house.” I don’t want anybody making it seem more attractive to pitch up at Dover in a rubber boat. Yes I was being facetious because his “offer” is pie in the sky, just as those of the Misses Sturgeon and Cooper were.

The vast majority of people in the UK do not have the luxury of a spare room to offer to illegal migrants. Many of them don’t have sufficient room to properly accommodate themselves and their families. They also have difficulty finding a suitable school for their children and obtaining medical treatment in a timely manner. The last thing they want is virtue-signalling politicians and minor celebs suggesting that there is plenty of room for all comers here. There isn’t and any that there is should go to those people who have applied for entry through the proper channels, not to people who arrive illegally in rubber boats.
You know precisely the point I was making, as soon as it became clear he had made inroads then it was claimed one room wouldn't be enough.

Should he shut up?

Quite possibly, but so might a lot of other spouters.
You can’t make this up. The stupid tree has shed it’s prolific bounty. Idiots are falling over each other in the haste to virtue signal. Woke! WOKE, they are asleep at the wheel, the jester is king.
Nice raft of soundbites there David.
//You know precisely the point I was making, as soon as it became clear he had made inroads then it was claimed one room wouldn't be enough.//

But he hasn't made any inroads. All he's done is to spout a load of sanctimonious claptrap aimed at - he believes - enhancing his credibility. My remark was glib. I don't expect Mr Lineker to use four of his five spare rooms to accommodate illegal immigrants. That's because I don't expect him to use even one. There is as much chance of him taking in a migrant lodger as there is of the other two I mentioned. They've had four or five years to do so, they have political connections who could swing it for them, but they haven't. Why is that? Either because they had no intention of doing so or, having thought it through, they thought better of it. I know which one I'll go for as far as they are concerned. The jury's still out in Mr Lineker's case.
Mamya weren't you one of the ones on here quite some time ago who said you would put up some migrants (I think it was when all those so-called 'children' came over who mainly turned out to be grown men) ? Did you actually do that ?
Mamya doesn't do altruism, she merely preaches it.
“ so have you signed up to give a spare room then”

Sometimes you just have to laugh. What makes you think I would want go do that, especially I have already said I wouldn’t :-) (rhetorical question btw)
Shirley, I most definitely have never said that on here or anywhere else.
Lol it isn’t just me then!
Sure you did, but I'll have to take your word for it.
You will
And like it
I don't preach at all Jack, I simply expect fairness in debate and not a lot of that happens.

I do wish a lot of social commentators would hush up and think how their speeches may be taken.

I'd be unlikely to have forgotten saying that Shirley, especially as contractually I am unable to have a lodger.
Our local 'homeless' association knows that in an absolute emergency we will accommodate someone, British only, overnight, give them breakfast and deliver them to the centre in the morning. That is where is stops. Very small house and we are elderly.
Oh you do preach Mamya, quite a lot actually.
This is deja vu all over again.

Marvin Rees is repeating his predecessor George Ferguson. It was his 2015 plea which prompted Yvette Cooper and Nicola Sturgeon to make their solemn pledges.

Burly, you are entitled to your opinion.
