On 1st July the published number (cumulative) of Covid cases in the UK was 313,483. I could not find yesterday's figures. Today the total number of cases up to yesterday is 283,757 - a figure that by my records was achieved on 6th June. So 30,000 cases have disappeared. Looking at the source of my figures it seems all the numbers have been re-cast:

Different people doing the counting differently. No co-ordination, in other words.
In Updates on your site Judge.

"We have updated the methodology of reporting positive cases, to remove duplicates within and across pillars 1 and 2, to ensure that a person who tests positive is only counted once. Methodologies between nations differ and we will be making future revisions to align approaches as much as possible across the 4 nations.Due to this change, and a revision of historical data in pillar 1, the cumulative total for positive cases is 30,302 lower than if you added the daily figure to yesterday’s total. We will revise the methodology note explaining this in more detail in due course"
But well spotted in any case . (^_*)

Thanks, chaps.

Rather makes a nonsense of the figures I have been religiously recording for the last three months and also means the death rate (deaths:confirmed cases) has increased from 14.0% to 15.5%.
16.57, "Different people doing the counting" .I think Boris was counting the lower Figure.
//I think Boris was counting the lower Figure.//

Then he was right again.......the lower figure was indeed correct.

You too? Completely agree, although it is also I suppose to be expected that data gathered quickly was not gathered perfectly.
//data gathered quickly was not gathered perfectly.//

Phhtt....scientists ehh? Wonder which other "data" is massaged to fit a narrative box?
They had stopped Priti Patel doing the counting.
That Revised figure drops us down the table to 8th, below Chile. But Chilie have 33,000 less deaths than us.
Togo,
Not sure why you think I would be miffed that the figure is down. It can only be good news for everyone.

If only they could massage the important one, the 44,000 deaths.
You have it the wrong way round, Togo. Data that is never corrected is more suspicious than data that undergoes revisions. Anything humans do is subject to human error -- so, if corrections are made, then you have the confidence that people are aware of this and are working to fix it.
Just watching Boris on Tv saying, if we all obey the rules we can beat this.
( i/e Cv) . { Think he forgot to mention Cummings and Stan the Man).

Yes, You can add teacake and diddlydo to that list for starters
gulliver1 ...... and his own Dad Stanley.

Yes Jim. But not only does it ruin my spreadsheet, but it also makes a mockery (and I've mocked it often enough) of the "R" number - the Holy Grail of all this (so we're told). That figure is often quoted to two decimal places and is said to be vital in deciding what parts of the economy will be saved or further ruined. But they've arbitrarily knocked 10% off one of the principle components.
true, gulliver, politicans saying "Do as I say, not as I do" don't always get an obedient hearing.
