That told me nothing at all, I waited and hoped you’d give us something ‘new’ yet everything you said, we’d been aware of already ......
Pleased he’s increased the fines to those that think they’re immune !

Just told "she who must be obeyed" that we are freeee. First though I will buy two walking sticks(we do not need them) and wave them about aggressively if any git come near us when we are out and...

You have to wonder why so many people are commuting 50 miles to work everyday- I'm sure they are not all NHS staff and shopworkers and some wort of homeworking should be possible for a fair number- in fact that has been happening and has often worked well . This may also focus people's minds on whether to find work nearer home in the longer term
diddly, I guess once people start getting back to work that'll mean all the train drivers too.
TD //But he kind of did. Whatever, shows how diverse perspective is.//
He did not, he said "Don't use public transport if possible
FF, many people have even longer journeys. Most city offices are closed and the staff working from home. I think that will continue for a while yet.
"You have to wonder why so many people are commuting 50 miles to work everyday"

Err to put food on the table maybe?

I have had to work all over the place in the UK and in Bruxelles, Paris and Frankfurt as well as a spell in NY. Should I have stayed where I was on a paltry salary then?

Diddly does have a point on the commuter trains although if following Boris advice if you only travel if you cannot work from home that should alleviate a lot of the over crowding. Problem then comes when you get to the underground as it is running a reduced service as there are not enough staff.
I though the message from Boris was very clear.

It was precise, encouraging and very sensible.
ymb, //underground as it is running a reduced service as there are not enough staff. //

As I said with the trains, hopefully the drivers will be back to work soon. I don't think we can - or should - expect everything to return to normal instantly.

Northampton is 66 miles from London. Before the lockdown, between 6-30 and 8am there were 9 trains to London, 6 of which loaded to 12 cars and the rest to 8 cars. all these trains were full and standing from Milton Keynes.

What did you want him to say, bobbi?
Just been announced on radio that fines will go up from £50 to £100 and will be doubled for any subsequent offence up to a maximum of £3.200.

Naomi , as I said here last night, I wanted to hear whether the over 70s were to be still in lockdown as was said at the beginning For a 12 week period, or are we ( those with no underlying health problems ) now in the same category as others?
Question Author
Danny, I am pleased this is happening
Fines for what exactly though Danny?

Given the large fines I think the public will need to know exactly what it is they can do so they can argue a case with over zealous plod.
ymb, contravention of rules laid down by the government in relation to social distances etc.
//ymb, contravention of rules laid down by the government in relation to social distances etc. //

what you can be fined for contravening is in regulations 4,5 and 7 of the regulations, as set out in regulation 8:-
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/pdfs/uksi_20200350_en.pdf

oddly enough, social distancing is not mentioned or defined in the regulations, but in the supporting guidance note.

Bobbi. the advice to stay home applies to most people, but although the over 70s, because of their age, were actively encouraged to follow the advice more stringently, they weren’t confined under law. They have throughout been able to go shopping or to go out for exercise. If they so choose they may still do those things - and from Wednesday for longer.
Naomi, unless they were classified as 'extremely vulnerable'.
Do we...the over 70s...need permission to move more freely? I know there are plenty by me who've been out and about doing their shopping all through this. I suspect if I didn't have a scaredy dog, I'd have been out a bit more often. Or, maybe not. My daughter would give me hell if she thought I was going out.

Thank you Naomi, I guess that’s the link in the chain I’m looking for , although I’ve never stood in a shop for almost 8 weeks now
