Britain's responses to people entering the Country whether legally or illegally has been a disgrace for years. The pandemic has only highlighted the utter neglect that has been a feature of our border controls for decades. The officials and civil serpents who are in control of it have had there own agenda for decades and have not seen fit to alter it one iota despite the deadly virus. The anti racist, and everybody welcome mantra is all that is important in their zealously fixated minds and we are as ever paying the price for their twisted idealism.
My nephew should have been flying back from Thailand at the beginning of April..however the flight was cancelled in March and put back to May19th! He has been in lockdown for weeks in the hotel complex with all the other holidaymakers. The most upsetting thing is that his friend who went out with him, caught the virus and died. Now my nephew has to bring his ashes back.
As I type now I am listening to the Nigel Farage show on LBC. A Scottish doctor is relating about a patient presenting himself voluntarily and asked if he was OK to travel on the train from London to Glasgow as he had landed at Heathrow from Italy just earlier. He stated he had not been questioned on arrival,no temperature taken,no advice given. He told the doctor that he had,indeed,been in the Lombardy region sometime whilst in Italy.

they're going to be quarantining them now (not sure if they've started yet), but so far they haven't been doing any testing.

Just as reliable as requesting our boat people,as they wash up on Brighton beach, to find their way to Croydon and surrender themselves to immigration.

Simon Calder said that the logic for testing and quarantining any British citizen returning from abroad is no different to that for forcibly quarantining Brits on the High Street. This assumes I think they have been practising self-distancing etc in the country they came from (apart from when on a crowded plane) and most of these countries have lower infection rates than UK so they are no more a risk than Brits already here.

But how would we do it. Quarantine them all in a hotel room each and provide meals at our/their expense> Test them and force them to report back to collect the result 3 days later. Then retest them all again in case the first test missed it?

Will they? Why will they? As I have mentioned before, a friend of mine returned home from Europe a couple of weeks ago. He went through the e-Gates at Heathrow (along with everybody else, from everywhere else), was not asked where he'd been or where he was going, whether he was resident or not (and many arriving in the sixty or so passenger flights arriving daily at Heathrow are not). He simply got on the tube and went home. Compare this to the way arrivals are treated in, say Greece (from the FCO website):
"Direct commercial flights between the UK and Greece (in both directions) are suspended from midnight local time on 23 March until 11:59pm Greek time on 15 May. If you are a permanent resident in Greece, and need to return to Greece from the UK, you may be able to travel on any flights organised by the Greek authorities. You will need to provide proof of residency, via a Registration Certificate or Permanent Residence Document. You should contact the Greek Embassy in London for further information.
From 16 March, everyone arriving in Greece from abroad must go into 14 days’ self-isolation. This is mandatory, and the authorities will enforce it by prosecution and fines.
As well as that, some 600 people have arrived in rubber boats since the lockdown began. Most have arrived from living in the most insanitary conditions in northern France. They have been "processed" by the immigration authorities and then "dispersed" (i.e. set free to go where they like) across the country.

We don't know where they've come from. Nobody asks.
