Scheduled and paid for advertising slots
Not everywhere is on lockdown.
yup, they have bought and paid for the advertising and made the commercials.
plenty of travel companies are advertising 2021 holidays. A few of them are offering £1 deposits so you can cancel without losing much. People aren't going to stop planning holidays even if it all has to be put off by three months.
I reckon for a £1 deposit people will do it as a gesture of faith.....that this nonsense will have an end and that we will be able to travel and enjoy ourselves again.

The whole of the UK is (at least as far as leisure activities go) to all intents and purposes. All cruises are cancelled. Most flights are cancelled and people have been urged to refrain from travelling for 30 days anyway (which will almost certainly be extended). Most of the popular destinations are under some sort of restrictions. If you try to take a break in the UK you will not be able to eat or drink out and if you try to self-cater you will spend most of your holiday in the shops searching for supplies. Nobody knows if or when any of this will change. Guestimates range from a month to two years.

Whether the slots have been paid for or not it is utterly crass to advertise any holidays at the moment and they should have been pulled.

I love your new avatar, Tora.
I have noticed that a lot of adverts at the moment appear to be for DIY and gardening products and things you can do at home. Makes sense I suppose with everyone off work.
May be they just want to fill their bank accounts before they go bust, leaving ABTA to pick up the bill.
I watch Talking Pictures a lot, BD, which is old films for, basically, old people. So there are lots of ads for cremation. I try not to take it personally.
For jno - you get some little gems on there don't you but then you remember how old you were when you watched them first time around.

Indeed Zacs. And if you looked at that on a normal day you would barely see the map under the main flight corridors and around the major airports for yellow. Perhaps a better grasp can be gained by looking at flight departures from Gatwick. Up to 1pm today it looks like there will be 24 departures. Of those, three are domestic and five are to the Canaries and Portugal. These five will almost certainly be leaving empty and will just pick up people returning to the UK as those two destinations have been virtually closed to incoming passengers. Gatwick usually handles about 150 to 175 departures a day. It is the busiest single-runway airport in the world. Last July it was closed for less than two hours due to an ATC problem. Twenty-eight departures were cancelled and 26 incoming flights had to be diverted. To see just 24 flights in seven hours of operations indicates the effect the pandemic is having. London City is a little difficult to judge because it normally closes for traffic at 1pm on Saturday anyway (until 12:30pm Sunday). But just one flight (to the Isle of Man) seems to have departed this morning.

The aviation business in the UK is, to all intents and purposes, almost at a standstill.
As advised, a lot of holiday companies and cruise companies are keeping the future in mind.

I have been asked by my employers what my availability will be for future cruises, and I have told them from September onwards, because things could change very quickly if a response to the virus is found.

Add to that the need to keep the idea of a holiday in people's minds - advertising still makes sense for a while at least.
In time of crisis it always helps to keep a good sense of humour. :-)
