For being so mean, but I really hope London gets a shut down like Madrid before all those with holiday homes migrate to the country and coast.

I admit it will benefit us and that I would probably do it if I lived in London.

You're hoping folk don't do what you would do in their shoes?

Yes, it was a confession. I am not alone in thinking this though - just honest.
Question Author
I am doing what others do, thinking of my family first.
Trouble is many have second homes down here in B&H. I hope they stay where they are. We have more than enough people as it is.
That's what happened here on the Costa. Madrid closed down and those with holiday homes here descended upon us.
If it benefits you then why do you hope that London gets shut down?

How will it benefit me 237SJ? I am in much the same position as Ladybirder. I live near what they call Chelsea on Sea on the North Norfolk Coast, (because of the amount of second homes of the rich and famous and apart from holiday homes there are a lot of Static Caravans along the Norfolk coast line) I want to avoid crowds of people that come down from the worse affected part of the UK who may well be harbouring the virus. As Sumaraisan says, this has happened on the Costa, and it has been acknowledged that it happened in Italy and was a factor in the spread of the disease and the large number of cases.
There was a report on our local news that the second home owners in Southwold just over the border in Suffolk, not that far from on the east coast of Norfolk are flocking to their properties and buying up all the stuff in the shops.
I expect the people who have second properties along our seafront, which us locals call millionaires row, won't be long before they come either now the schools are shutting.
Of course if they take ill with this virus they'll expect to be treated at our local hospital. Why can't people just stay put and be more responsible and think of others.
Norfolk relies heavily on the tourist industry but I think at a time like this people should be sensible and try to stop the spread as much as possible.I'm sure things will bounce back once this is over.
I live in a holiday area, and we would normally have loads of tourists here now. I can’t pretend I’m not pleased about a bit of extra peace for a while, though.
I worry about our neighbours who rely on tourism for their livelihood.
I'll forgive you. London seems to be epicentre of the UK pandemic.

I was dreading going to a hearing there tomorrow, which now thankfully is being done by Skype. I am fairly happy that I am low risk; Mr BM isnt.
If you are working from home and maybe video conferencing, make sure all the family is dressed - I have heard some funny stories today of unexpected floor shows, :-)
just do what Shaun of the Covid suggests

I'll be OK, Mamy. Am just worrying about Mr BM and ASBO appearing in front of his Lordship! (And unless I shut him out, ABSO WILL appear!)

I made an error in my OP which must have confused!

'Ì must admit that if I lived in London I would probably do the same' I don't know where the 'benefit us' came from.

Its already happening. Ive just been speaking to an aunt who lives in Norfolk and the second homers are arriving in droves. Probably get to panic buying in the shops and spreading their city germs
It's been like Friday afternoon everyday in Waitrose, the usual stop-off for the hoardes heading for the North Norfolk coast.
Question Author
Zebo. Are you a Norfolk dweller too?
Question Author
We too are on that North Norfolk coast route. And its very busy too.
Question Author
I am so going to miss going to that coast on a regular basis. Our town supermarkets are going to be full of the second home brigade!
