They have had the whole of the summer holidays to protest, or is this just another exercise brought on by their left-wing teachers?

All seems reminiscent to the Nazi teachers in 1930's Germany.

Fair play. They're all giving up their i-phones and x-boxes for a year and walking everywhere. (I presume)
Looking at the background and history of the Fridays for Future movement, it is clear that this is NOT a leftwing movement.

iPhone use causes Climate change?

This gets weirder and weirder.
Can't see why they are demonstrating here in the UK. Preaching to the converted?
Everything causes Climate Change, gromit. Do keep up.
Having spent all my working life in the teaching profession, I can assure you that there is not a predominance of lefties in state run schools.

Not in my neck of the woods, anyway.

/// Also, what's this nonsense that climate change is, or should be, only a left-wing issue? ///

Take a look at who's organising these protests in the UK, haven't you noticed the red Socialist Worker's banners?
Some left-wingers may or may not have partially hijacked the protest, but it's still frankly odd that right-wingers are more concerned about that than about the actual, and very serious, issue of Climate Change.

/// Secondly teachers do not run the schools, the Government (or local authority does). ///

Are you saying that the Government and their local authorities gave their blessings to this strike?

If not, perhaps the politicians should rush through another of their one day laws, banning this strike as unlawful.
// Preaching to the converted? //

The UK Government readily signs up to targets for reducing emissions. And then misses their own targets.

// Everything causes Climate Change //
No it doesn’t. No one is advocating going back to a pre-industrial time, they are just saying we should modify own behaviour to cut emissions. While new technology can introduce its own problems, it can greatly help in changing the behaviour of billions of people by reducing their travel, transportation, being more efficient, working smarter.
If we have worked out how to use less fossil fuels, we’d be mad not to do that.
// Are you saying that the Government and their local authorities gave their blessings to this strike? //

I have said no such thing. I said Teachers had not arranged it which is entirely different.

The Government have clearly stated that missing school to strike is unlawful, and that schools and teachers should not encourage it.

// But the Department for Education has echoed teachers unions in warning that whilst they "encourage constructive engagement" it shouldn't "come at the expense of our children’s education or excessive disruption".

Teachers have been told that if they encourage students to attend or fail to record absences they put themselves at risk of legal or disciplinary action. //
//aog, can you help me please. what happened with nazi teachers in the 1930s? are you saying they were left wing? //

"Nazi" is a contraction of the German Nationalsozialismus, or "National Socialism", with the party itself named the "National Socialist German Workers Party" (or NSDAP). socialists are generally held to be left wing.

at the school I attended, a graph of where different parties sat was drawn as a horseshoe, and the nearer the extremes of the graph the parties were, the nearer to each other extreme left and right became, until, conjecturally, to could look from one to the other and be at a loss to say which was which.
// Take a look at who's organising these protests in the UK, haven't you noticed the red Socialist Worker's banners? //

More nonsense. While the Socialist Workers may attend, they have not organised it. They are attempting to hijack the event. They jump on the bandwagon at Parliament, but will be thin on the ground across the country, or worldwide Most of the banners I see are self made with paint, Pencil or crayon.

And what is the school childrens's solution to the problem of climate change?
It ain't cutting down on cardboard use, that's for sure.
In relation to left wing protesters:
A big difference on today’s march in London is the presence of trade union activists alongside young people and their parents, writes Guardian environment correspondent Matthew Taylor
I thought striking kids was an offence nowadays?

Bring back the birch I say...
Asutralian children have not just had their summer holidays.
Mmm, that's interesting.

Ask most children. "what is climate change"?

Most would say " In winter it is cold and sometimes snows" and "in Summer it is hot and sometimes rains".

In my day Children should been seen but not heard.
