Completely agree with you Mamy it's as simple as that
It is to me.
Why not have male/female writers and get a bit of both ?! Case in point, James Corden and Ruth Jones.
I don't generally find female stand-up comedians funny, but they can be very good at writing it. Let's see how it goes, then...
Are there that many women writing comedy at the moment. In my opinion comedy at present is on a low ebb.
There don't seem many men or women at the moment, tbh. Maybe everything is too sensitive now.
i thought discrimination because of sex was illegal?
Doesn't seem to be. Maybe only when not warranted.
I find the year of the rabbit quite funny
Probably not.
I completely agree with Naomi. Talent, not gender must be the criteria. Muir and Norden were brilliant as were others. Saunders and French were brilliant in a later genre. (All I.M.O..) Stupid to ban single-sex writing teams.
Did Retro Grade not leave ITV a long time ago?
Well I have just started to watch I think it is called "Two Doors Down" and I must say Elaine C Smith (Rab Nesbitt's wife) is a brilliant comedienne and also a beautiful singer.
Stupid to ban single-sex writing teams.
Totally agree, is she having a laugh, obviously not. I can’t remember though the last comedy on ITV I laughed at, even men behaving badly was pants before it went to the Beeb.
Typical sexist nonsense. Shows how far society has fallen.

"Wow, this is good comedy, I'm literally laughingout loud; who wrote it ?"
"Oh; in that case I was mistaken, it's clearly rubbish and we want no part of it."
...LAUGHING OUT...

JJ, is Elaine C Smith one of the writers of "Two Doors Down" as that's what this thread is about?
AOG - // Could This Be An End To Comedy On Itv? //

Only if you think that adding one or more women to a writing team is the kiss of death on the basis that she or they are women.

I'm not sure if that is your view, or if you are simply asking the question - as you often do to start a debate off.

I agree with Naomi - talent not gender should be the driving force of what is commissioned.

If a series is good enough to be commissioned, it's good enough, it doesn't matter if a gang of chimps with typewriters came up with it.

The notion that women need 'protection' in a male creative environment is insulting to both genders.

A commissioner who says she won't commission a series simply because it is written only by men is in the wrong job.
There has been a lot of sexist twaddle posted on here about women not being as good as men at comedy writing.

However, I do think that banning men only teams will be detrimental to the quality of whatever comedy output is presented by ITV.
