"If the police had a more specific description, what purpose would be served by not using it? "

hahaha, thats not supposed to be taken seriously is it?.....oh i get it its rhetorical...haha

I can only repeat my earlier point - I suggest that it is the victim's description that the man is 'tanned' which is maybe how she described him. The police do not say it is their description, and clearly it would be prejudicial to describe the man in terms other than those provided by the victim.

That is the only reason I can think of for not describing the suspect as Asian, when he appears to be Asian, but without background information, we are all guessing here.

In other words, you're sitting on the fence.
Some inventive stuff tonight.
There's a real danger of some disappearing up their own.

THECORBYLOON// Since TALBOT has all the answers, who is the one who described the attacker as being tanned? If the police had a more specific description, what purpose would be served by not using it? //

As useless as I consider our PC police, they would have had the CCTV within a half hour of the offence being committed.

//Do you really think the police want a possible rapist to be out and about a day longer than needed?//

As they never, ever mention the ethnicity of any suspect they're searching for. Unless they're white, in which case it'll be the first part of any description.
What do you think, Corby?
Perhaps they were alluding to him being leathered over the "Winter Festivities"?
Talbot - // In other words, you're sitting on the fence. //

About what am I supposed to be sitting on the fence?

As far as I am concerned, the suspect is an Asian man, but I am not the police, who I imagine have their own reasons for the way they have described him.

I fail to see any fence-sitting here.
"As useless as I consider our PC police, they would have had the CCTV within a half hour of the offence being committed. "

You know that for a fact do you?

Even using 'an Asian man' is not enough when they have a more accurate description.
Asia is a massive continent with humans of very different appearances.

I have not said you are racist, in fact I don't think you are nor do I know how or why the word tanned rather than a more suitable description was used in the early report.

You have told us it was the Police, thank goodness it did not hamper his capture (at this stage I am presuming it is the right man they have arrested).

My heart goes out to the young lass and I hope she gets all the support she is going to need.
"nor do I know how or why the word tanned rather than a more suitable description was used in the early report."

like others on here you know exactly why the word tanned was used so how about stopping playing little miss innocent, youre fooling nobody..

Looking at the picture, I can see an Asian man.

Can you see something else that I am missing Talbot?
Detective Corby scratches head, 'Mmmm, if only there was some way, in the middle of the town centre, we could find out what this blighter looks like?'
A perplexed looking Constable Hughes, ' It's a darned tricky one alright, Sir'.

Please do not tell me what I am thinking, I can assure you that I know that better than you do CallMeDawg.

I will make you a deal, I won't tell you what are thinking in return.
What's wrong with '' Black as the Ace of Spades'' ?
Something to do with him not being black I suppose, Eddie.
Nothing wrong with the phrase in my book. My mother used it to describe me if I came in from playing out covered in muck,
"I will make you a deal, I won't tell you what are thinking in return."

i spend all day having to dealing with people trying to play mind games and playing the naive card, so i see right through people like you in an instant...

but now i know what they do in their spare time, they come here and carry on their ridiculous act....sheeesh, unbelievable.

worrying thing is you actually think your being smart and clever .

you know exactly why plod used/s "tanned" so stop with the stupid "i have no idea" pretence it fools nobody
