I've heard some conspiracy theories but this one takes the biscuit. It isn't even consistent with itself ...
Naomi - // My post is offered in terms of observation… //

Well it certainly doesn't read like 'observation' - but then your posts never have, so at least you are consistent.
Nice try, Andy-Hughes, but all that demonstrates in your ongoing inability to comprehend. Try reading my posts again.
Dear Liberals,
You might agree with the police covering up Muslim crimes for the sake of community cohesion but please don't insult our intelligence, make yourselves look stupid, by pretending it isn't happening.
It's been well documented for at least 15 years.
There are two "conspiracy theories", Ellipsis.

One is that the media will avoid (wherever possible) mentioning the ethnicity or cultural back-ground of criminals or suspects. This, actually, is just the media following EU guidelines (and possibly local ones) on "responsible" reporting of incidents which might put any of Europe's immigrant communities in a negative light and waken the sleeping beast of Europe's biggest threat - "right-wing extremism".

The other theory is that the police and local authorities have turned a blind eye to certain classes of sexual predation. You don't believe there's any evidence for this "theory", I take it? I thought I'd provided the evidence. And you think it contains internal contradictions? What might they be?
PS: that's to Ellipsis at 11.08.
//It's been well documented for at least 15 years//

That was addressed to the three wise monkeys, right, Andrew?
> You might agree with the police covering up Muslim crimes for the sake of community cohesion

Classic.

Perhaps you'd care to suggest another conspiracy theory for why the "liberals" would agree to laying themselves open to rape and slaughter by the "radicals". Community cohesion again?
I think as long as it doesn't happen to you, you couldn't give a damn.
You have a curious lack of empathy for other people.
(by 'you' I mean all 'progressive' people)
> I thought I'd provided the evidence. And you think it contains internal contradictions? What might they be?

I thought I'd provided the contradictions. The OP is a good example:

* Premise: Police use a term like "tanned" in order to make it less likely they will bring the perpetrator to justice and thereby cause a problem with "community cohesion".
* Further implications by some posters are that the victim never used "tanned", the police chose to use that word for themselves.
* Yet within hours police have made an arrest of somebody in one of the "protected" groups that cause community cohesion problems, so the premise fails at the first hurdle.
* And then to add further confusion, naomi claims that the arrest helps community cohesion, making a total mockery of the premise.

> I think as long as it doesn't happen to you [liberals], you couldn't give a damn.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, not only in me but in all liberals / progressives / anyone who does not share your rancorous nature. Of course it's never liberals that get attacked, is it? They are therefore rightly fearless for the safety of themselves, their children, their grandchildren and planet Earth. Stupid idiots, eh, carelessly setting themselves up for rape and slaughter, thinking it will never happen to them ...

What?
I've already conceded the self-censorship issue, Ellipsis: never mention race, ethnicity, and most especially never mention Islam.

I want an answer to the more substantial point I was trying to make.

You earlier:

//Perhaps you'd care to suggest another conspiracy theory for why the "liberals" would agree to laying themselves open to rape and slaughter by the "radicals". Community cohesion again?//

But the "liberals" did agree, Ellipsis. Those are the facts. I hesitate to accuse you of a low attention span, but Rotherham was not all that long ago and was quite big at the the time. The rapes had been covered up for at least ten years. Do you deny that?

By the way, I agree with you about "social cohesion" as a motive. Nothing wrong with your logic at all. assuming a common abhorrence of rape: if people get upset by sexual predators gang-raping their twelve-year old daughters then the best way of maintaining "social cohesion" is stopping the rapes rather than covering them up.

But "social cohesion" is not about "communities" getting on well with each other, it's code for "Don't upset Muslims". As in the Salman Rushdie affair. As in don't let Asia Bibi here - Muslims will be out rioting in their thousands rioting just as the (far smaller) Muslim population did in 1980 over Rushdie.

I suspect that Ellipsis has now read the letter from the police to C4 and realises that the 'conspiracy theories' she's been pouring scorn on all day were, in fact, correct.
Probably be back in the morning to apologise to us better informed folks. ;-)
Ellipsis, //* Premise: Police use a term like "tanned" in order to make it less likely they will bring the perpetrator to justice//

See what you did there? No one, except you, has suggested that. Terms like ‘tanned’ are employed in order to minimise anti-immigrant sentiment.

//* And then to add further confusion, naomi claims that the arrest helps community cohesion, making a total mockery of the premise.//

The premise is yours alone - and you missed the irony in my response to your question. I repeat, you’re falling for it, as is spath. All to the good for community cohesion.
Ellipsis is quite right of course: this is a conspiracy theory. And one of the dafter ones.
The following is one of scores of recent examples you can google: in fact in this one it appears the suspect’s description as passed on by local police is one “of Asian or E European appearance” which as close to “bloody foreigner” as you can get ;-)

Then you're as daft as Elipsis who has just made up stuff to support his nonsense.

And “tanned” will certainly have come from the victim of course.
Question Author
You don't know that but regardless as I have said earlier an experienced copper should be able to talk to the victim and get a better description.

I will ask you as I have asked others...why so long to get the CCTV image out?
