that's how the headline reads - but it's not how it was reported on TV last night, nor indeed is it said in the text of the article. The police are investigating not the refusal, but threats made after the event. and the driver wasn't dismissed for refusing to transport poppies, but for falsifying his job card.

all very strange, eh?

Which is just as well on this web site...

TTT - // ok andy, I'll take "the other side" in your two choices above. //

OK - care to elaborate as to why you have that view?

Indeed it is ... because some people seem to be, as always, purposefully avoiding the elephant in the room.
Which elephant is that then?
Couldn't say. Data protection .... and all that. ;o)
Naomi. “ because some people seem to be, as always, purposefully avoiding the elephant in the room“.

I don’t engage with discussions which are only thinly-veiled covers for The Pack to all bark together while they chase some non-existant quarry.
How noble.
perhaps we won't ever find out, so for the time being lets hope that the poppies were delivered to the right people.

what ?
the elephant is the room is data protection ?

No wonder I see no elephant - - I see no data protection issue at all.
( and I am someone who got the Information Commissioner to screw over my employer. I retired soon after. )

as Disraeli might say: [ who he den?] this data protection bit is a puzzle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in something else (*)

(*)About Schleswig-Holstein 1866. only three people understood the Schleswig Holstein quezzie, one is dead, one is something and the third is in a lunatic asylum

sorry - it is a sunday morning and if people are going to speak in riddles
oh - riddle wrapped in a puzzle wrapped in an enigma
// Naomi. “ because some people seem to be, as always, purposefully avoiding the elephant in the room“. //

yeah me -
what do elephants go? moo?

well I can hear the elephant but I cant see it
Haha! Peter Pedant complaining about people talking in riddles. How funny! :o)
NAOMI, if you can't say what the elephant in the room is, what was the point of your first post?

Could it be that you can't say what that elephant is because you don't actually know for certain, what it is?
The point of my first post was to say that when there’s a possibility that the dreaded word might arise people go to great lengths twisting and turning in all directions to avoid the likely elephant in the room.
"possibility" "likely" hmmm...
I have just googled 'Birmingham taxi driver sacked poppies "muslim"' and there were NO hits that related to this incident.
Well, that's that sorted then - at least to your satisfaction.
You could always do your own search and let me have links to others saying the driver is a Muslim.
I should make it clear the only hits mentioning "Muslim" are ones from this thread.
Clearly 2 opposing sides here
I always ask myself... If someone gave me a million pound and I had to place it on one or the other, in this instance....

Muslin
Not Muslim

Where would I place the money?

Not necessary. I trust you.
