that's how the headline reads - but it's not how it was reported on TV last night, nor indeed is it said in the text of the article. The police are investigating not the refusal, but threats made after the event. and the driver wasn't dismissed for refusing to transport poppies, but for falsifying his job card.

all very strange, eh?

That was posted at 5.49pm Friday Nov 2nd. More than 24 hours after the poppies were refused transport at 13.19 on Thursday 1st Nov. So how did Mushroom's "fellow drivers" become involved before plod?
Quickly reading through this thread but not having seen or heard any of the media coverage, I do not understand whether anybody refused to deliver "poppies" or whether a Muslim was involved in whatever happened or did not happen. I am, however, clear on one thing and that is that religion of a sort is involved and that is in regard to the sanctity of a fake flower as a war totem which is a uniquely de rigueur British preoccupation (vaguely familiar to the ex-empire) once a year every year when there is, sure as clockwork, public posturing and sanctimonious mutterings of sacrifice, etc. spew forth. Is this really going to go on forever ? How long is the "glorious" slaughter of humans going to be celebrated ? Will it never become a time for mourning over the folly of war and military pompousness - at least in private ? Is it too much to hope that the 100th time will be the last ?
Nor does there appear to be any other reference on that feed that indicates that "other drivers" were aware of the incident.

Karl, I have no words to describe what I think of your post, so I'll just leave it there.
Plod only became involved because the company/driver was receiving threats.
Karl - we should NEVER forget ...
I have one word to describe Karl's post @ 15.50 - VILE.
Stop getting hysterical jackdaw!! What’s so ‘vile’ about his opinion?
//Plod only became involved because the company/driver was receiving threats.//

Which is exactly what I have been saying...…..Yes. The threats made by...….whom? The British Legion? The Driver? Or Mushroom's legions of fellow drivers who knew jack all about it?
It's not vile. He's giving his opinion and I'm sure many would think the same.

Not that I agree with it though.
Valid opinion from K . Free speech eh ?
I took it that it was more likely to be people complaining that a (muslim) cabbie had disrespected the British Legion and the war-dead.......and they were threateneing the Taxi firm because they employed such an obvious 'lowlife'.
karl: "How long is the "glorious" slaughter of humans going to be celebrated ? " - it's to remember those that died for our freedoms. freedoms that mouthy lefties use all too regularly to denigrate them.
If not vile, then certainly grossly offensive to very many people.
Not offensive at all war is a futile exercise
That's the sort of response I would expect from the likes of you.
And that my dear is the sort of response I have come to expect from you.
Rockrose: "war is a futile exercise " - so we just surrender to an aggressor do we? Right oh!
