237SJ - // Well, exactly. I think some people judge countries by what they read in the press //

Maybe they do, I cannot comment.

Personally, my experience is from visiting the country, and from interaction with hundreds of Americans through my work - not from what I read in the press.
Oh very good then..
andy-hughes, //my experience is from visiting the country//

I think it is the young people who say they wanna live.

the big thing ..... if it is a thing that becomes 'big' then it will be because the new voters will vote against the politicians who have failed to protect them

and Trump wasnt exactly voted in by a landslide

spath, //So half of america wants guns banned and half of america wants to keep their guns..//

Is it 50/50?

The government.

Spath, Perhaps the majority don't agree with you. It could happen you know. ;o)

Bit of a fine line there, Spath, but actually I was talking about the government who you said need to stop being so scared. Just saying that they might not be scared but simply in disagreement with you.

I would? Okay.

Righto.
This may sound a bit heartless, but I find it hard to care much about American gun laws. It's their problem to address or not as they see fit.
We've got issues of our own with knife crime etc.
It's not the elderly gun-toting cowboy type men out on a killing spree. Since the early 80s most of the massacres have been carried out by young white males. The young people need to address the issues that some of their age group have ,namely mental health problems and racial hatred. It won't make one iota of difference in banning guns etc. Where there's a will there's a way!
