Clearly motoring is so cheap that the masses have personal private transport. Surely it's time to start charging by the mile/time of day for motorways.

That issue regards the Congestion from the Croft interchange to the M62, what another stupid Idea from a load of morons that do not know the road, an answer would be a link road off the M6>> A56 Chester>>>>Altrincham meeting the M56 Just before Manchester A/Port, thre A56 is a duel Carriageway already so the work would be less cost.
bhg....well said !
TTT, you should know that the lingua current amongst the poor and the not so poor is 'road tax' and not 'vehicle excise duty'.
You need to mingle more
At the risk of being a grammar policeman I just love the way TWR calls it a DUEL carriageway, although I suspect it's an accurate description if it's anything like the dual-carriageways round our way.
HGVs do not pay for overnight parking in Europe, they also get free Parking and a safe overnight stop, what they get here is a charge of up to £15>>£15 for their curtain to get knifed and the load stolen due to no security.

bhg...if its anything like when I am on the M4, then duel would be more appropriate !
Has anyone got a Rope?
TWR - exactly, that's a charge they face in the UK that they don't face in mainland Europe. Our drivers gain from free parking over there.
Question Author
the Shermans call it a dule carriageway!
TTT is you think your answer to my post makes you look smart then think again. It just shows you up for the small minded person you are. I could call you something other than "small minded" but hey, everyone understands what I mean.

maggie it was douglas that first pointed out your 80 year out of date terminology.
No. We pay road fund and ripped off for petrol/diesel. The suggestion we should drop further and throw away our right to use the roads we've paid for should never have seen the sun. Shame to even think of possibly suggesting such a ludicrous idea.
No. Agree with Old G. Also TWR is quite correct re. benefits on the Continent. We used to go to Relais for a good meal out at cheap prices! Lorry drivers parked for free, showered and cleaned up for free and ate a darned good 4-course meal for very little - buffets usually included prawns, mixed seafood, rolls of stuffed ham - gosh, I can't remember all the rest - but they were always extensive.

Main courses were substantial and included steaks. Then cheese, then dessert. All (5yrs. ago) for 10 or 12 euros. Not making a particular point here, except that driving in UK is already expensive for them - be nice if we could have relais and aires. :(
TTT you have really excelled yourself this time!
Your post is arrogant, badly thought out , downright rude and insulting.
I hardly know where to start, but for a first point charging for use of motorways would result in two problems, far worse congestion on non motorways and a huge increase in the cost of living . Every thing we eat and buy has to be transported by road on motorways. Charging per mile would mean huge price increases.
I can hardly believe that you can actually say that road use should be made so expensive that only the rich can afford it.
I'll think of more reason to discount this ludicrous outburst soon and get back on here . Always assuming that this post has not been banned as it deserves to be!
LOL, just had to check that this wasn't a just jude post.

do read my posts eddie, I said private usage.
Question Author
"I can hardly believe that you can actually say that road use should be made so expensive that only the rich can afford it. " - where did I say that?
At 15.56 TTT where you also say foreign trucks should be charged £1000 every time they enter the UK , so much for 'private usage'!
No wonder you are so anti EU , pro Brexit !
Question Author
that was in response to TWRs concerns and also if we do not do a deal on brexit. try reading what I actually write rather than eddies skim.
