Another Shooting
Another shooting in London. It seems to me that hardly a day goes by without there being a shooting or a stabbing in a part of London. What can be done about this, is there nothing the Mayor can do? Stronger sentences for when they are caught perhaps?

It's a vast metropolis with a population in the millions, even an average or low crime rate (which it doesn't have, it's high)would generate regular headlines over time.
What the mayor (or anyone in government) can do depends on what you think causes it. A deterrent sentence is only a good solution if the people doing this think they'll be caught. Which they might,of course, but I find that unlikely. If they don't think they'll be caught, deterrents cannot work.
I personally would lean more towards giving people opportunities they don't currently have (i.e. carrots as well as sticks) to draw them away from crime. It'll never happen though because people think that's too wooly and soft and doesn't look good enough. Also it requires committing resources and long-term planning, which nobody likes.

Speaking on behalf of the 'usual suspects', ie one who dares to speak the truth, these days, no matter how uncomfortable it may be for the apologists.

Not in my experience. I visit London quite often and have never witnessed a single crime (unless you count paying £15 for a cocktail a crime). I visit many other cities and often work in Leeds and have never seen any crime other than 'handbags at dawn' fisticuffs.

Nice one AOG - that's answering the question in hand. The good thing about what you've written is that we can now attack/support/oppose what you've written, because it's directly relevant to the question.

It's the very end of the criminal process. At the point that someone is stopped and searched and found to be armed, they have relinquished the responsibility of being an upstanding citizen. The seeds would've been planted way before that. Would it not make more sense to go for a holistic approach where the roots of the downward spiral are tackled?

Once again - opinion, not truth.
You really need to start separating those out. If you continue to claim that what you say is the truth, others may inadvertently arrive at the conclusion that you're being very arrogant.
