Totally see your point AoG and the crucial word in that poem....'isle'. This is an island and can only sustain so many bods. As for Germany....part of a continent which can sustain many, though their thinking seems off kilter, have they even thought of the future and increase in population and what that brings? I have stayed away from this issue as I don't think my opinion would be a properly informed one, more it would be a knee-jerk emotional reaction as I suspect is the case with a few people. The issue is more complex than the 2 obvious sides that are being taken.
There is a great deal of scaremongering going on. A lot of scaremongering is promoted and forwarded by people who are ex-offenders, "choose" not to work, don't pay tax, are already on the benefits this country affords them. I am not inferring that anyone on this site fits into this but why do people who don't contribute to the country in any shape or form, even feel enabled to have an opinion. There are many strains on the state, people sympathetic to terrorist organisations and criminals that are home grown and we rarely turn that stone over and talk about that.

Yes we do indeed have many here already who have never paid into the system, but take much from the pot, we also have many who can not get a job, have no roof over their head, depend on food banks etc, etc.

Are you saying that it is just scaremongering to suggest that by adding more numbers to these cases it is only going to create more problems, for the country and the people who are already citizens of this country?

I appreciate you probably do, I though the point was still worth merit on this post as a side line view.

I can only vouch for what I see and hear and (not that I can put a percentage on it) there is a portion of society who feel enabled to comment on the strain that immigration puts on the UK whilst barely (if at all) chipping in themselves.

As a tax payer, and in my personal time a charitable guy, I feel that my POV should have more standing.

If I am digressing too much from the spirit of the post, apologies

Don't leave it there, jd. I'm fascinated. As a charitable, tax paying kind of guy could you outline who you think is entitled to an opinion?
I've never been on Facebook but do people really go on there and say, ' I choose not to work, I don't pay tax, I've just got out of prison but chunter chunter' That's amazing.
Since the last Labour government flooded the country with cheap labour and then introduced a range of in-work benefits to compensate there must be a dwindling number of net contributors like yourself. Do you think we should disenfranchise them? How about pensioners? Students? (I'd probably go along with that one, they're all half-wits, anyway. ;o) )
