I`m not sure it`s a win for cyclists everywhere. I think it`s just a lesson that anyone who values their job shouldn`t go anywhere near Twitter.

Fair dos SJ.... as a cyclist... chalk one up for the good guys
clearly a numpty but I think it's harsh firing him for a tweet, I mean the whole site is full of plonkers if they all got fired for tweeting c0bblers we'd have no MPs for a start.....hang on!
The outcome would be the same if he said he knocked down a pedestrian and if he said it in the pub he would have got away with it. You can`t be too careful with social media and employment these days and that goes for Facebook as well.
//Astronomer Adam Whittaker wrote:.."I'll be following your case"//

for the doubters, being stalked by angry astronomers is another bloody good reason to stay off the tw@tosphere ;)

It's no different from people being fired from work for making crass comments on Facebook. Idiots don't think before they press Send.

Quite enjoy twitter if you get with a good bunch!!

//Win For Cyclists Everywhere// . . . .eh??

No cyclist was actually involved in this story,
so how does that ^^^ work then?
You have to be brave to cycle these days. Having said that, please do not cycle 3 abreast!

The clown allegedly hit a cyclist Baldric, as far as I'm concerned, this is a good one for cyclists, good that a company was willing to deal with it
I can`t believe the amount of people who cycle around here at night, wearing dark clothing and with no lights. Have they got a death wish? If they can afford two hundred quid for a bike, surely they can afford £20 for some lights.
naa most of them are on the pavement killing pedestrians:
http://metro.co.uk/2009/08/12/cyclist-is-jailed-for-killing-by-1861-law-335527/
I don't see it as any victory for cyclists, it's a victory for the reduction of idiotic Twitterers.

Whatever!

///"I did not hit cyclist. Not today. Not ever. A bad joke on my part it seems.
"Anyone who follows me on Twitter know 99% of the things I tweet is nonsense."///

Totally agree. And you don't need to spend 20 quid, you can pick up a full set of lights in Poundland! I always make sure I'm dressed in my brightest possible kit with 2 lights to the front, 2 at the rear and one on my helmet.
Can't be too safe!

Bit of a pathetic post for a fairly rare occurence, especially when you read this from your own link:

On average, three pedestrians die each year in Britain in collisions with cyclists. Just ten per cent of those accidents occur on footways.

In contrast, about 40 pedestrians are killed annually by motor vehicles on footways or verges, the CTC said.
Another victory for the thought police.
I find it very hard to believe that anyone took him seriously, similarly that he was fired for it. Seems like a standard (if a bit tasteless) tea-break joke that clearly doesn't transfer well to social media.
