Savile And Thatcher

Why was Thatcher so keen to get a knighthood for Savile, four times she tried to get him a knighthood ,before succeeding in 1990.WHY?

Lots of people thought Savile was marvellous;

the evidence is there in his viewing figures, attendance at events he organised and the success of his fundraising.

My late Mum thought he was lovely. Bless her. I have pictures from a charity event of him giving her a hug and they give me the eebie geebies now - but whilst I was never a fan of his, they didn't bother me back in the day.

I see what you are getting at YMB, the joining/last activity dates of Farriercm/jake-the-peg do seem to indicate some sort of continuation but jake was usually a constructive debater and generally knowledgeable and intellegent, there where many subjects on which we disagreed but I always had respect. farrier is nothing like jake, so either it's a coincidence or jake has taken to merely acting purely partisan, ignorant, imbecilic and uninformed. It's a good act if he has.

I don't think it's a fair criticism, really. At the time Savile was well-respected, at least at the top, and it's not too surprising that the top politicians of the day would want to be seen with him. You can, at any rate, find worse things to criticise Thatcher for.
