Gruesome maybe, but this is an entirely different world to what most of us are accustomed to.

If you had see your comrades killed and mutilated, and your squad had finally dispatched one of the perpetrators, wouldn't you feel like giving the (result) thumbs up?

This is just one more instance of trying to turn those that have to do the dirty work on our behalf, into some kind of social workers. And those who send them out to do this work then can't wait to grab hold of a situation like this to try and prove to the rest of the world that "our troops don't behave in such a manner, and we take it very seriously if they do".

WHY?????????

Oh you wonderful AB armchair warriors ready to leap down the throat of Tommy Atkins.Sit back and view the scenario from a wider picture. At the time of the event an unknown number of enemy insurgents enter, through stealth,a large military complex containing men and material. The insurgents are wearing the uniforms of our allies(stolen American...

Different when something goes public to incite others to join them. It is glorifying. A private picture for memory that accidentally went public, would be a different issue.
if all they're learning out there is to behave like Taliban, they'd better come back. I thought we went out there to make them better behaved, not to make ourselves worse behaved.

Straw Clutching again AOG!

Before making such brash statements as this please provide the necessary proof of what you say.

Grow up Baldric, if you are not interested in the thread don't bother posting with your troll like jibes.
jno; // I thought we went out there to make them better behaved...//.
Well that's an interesting and novel reason for going to war. :-)
I second Jno.....I know that I could kill an enemy....posing with the body and my thumbs up would remove any justification for the killing...for me.

You may notice from my posts @10:01 Sat 10th May 2014 &
10:35 Sat 10th May 2014 that I was interested in the thread, I was not the one who went off big game hunting, posted a link to the very thread we were already on, and started trying to point-score of fellow ABers
This thread is getting rather acrimonious. Can I suggest that AOG and Baldric resort to pistols at dawn and the winner posts a selfie of himself with the loser?
Whether you agree with the picture or not - and whether you agree with the "war" or not, this man was a son and possibly a husband, father, brother etc. He fights for what he believes in just as our troops fight for what they believe in.
There is far too much being made of this story. Slap the soldiers wrists and tell them not to do it again.
But on different playing fields apparently Maggie - they hang our dead troops from trees take pictures and are all whooping with delight - our boys take a photo with thumbs up and are castigated for it.
bhg for best answer!

Brendan, agreed, this was the last paragraph of my 10:35 post which aog chose to ignore, maybe it was uncomfortable for him!

///Had the Taliban won that particular skirmish would the body of one of our Soldiers look as intact as the dead Taliban fighter appears to be, I wonder?///
Do not think so Baldric -

The 'Big Game Hunting' images that I posted were perfectly in order on this thread, and used as a legitimate comparison to what was being debated.

Your reference to 'Points Scoring' can only be a figment of your imagination who obviously thinks that this is some form of contest, of which you seem to be losing.

I don't think so because I don't care to take 'selfles' of myself, especially when one considers it is this type of thing that has got these servicemen into trouble, so imagine what certain other ABers would do to me?

That's a very contradictory post AOG. If you think Baldric is losing, then it is you who thinks it is a competition.
Not only my opinion though is it Aog
Seems Jim has a similar opinion!

///And if you stopped for a moment to think about it, you'd realise that I have a point. You do lose yourself in minutiae and trivial attempts at point-scoring.
Look at the way you conduct your debates, and realise that you rarely do yourself much credit.

Yes I am sure he treated his wife equally and respectably, no he fights for the subversion of women.
