I cannot help be feel this has been contrived. We have waited two years and watched while this has played out. We have been supplying the rebels with arms, training them, giving them surveillance information.
But Assad is now winning and the rebels are near defeated. Why would Assad use chemical weapons now? If he'd had them he would have used them years ago.
All very reminiscent of Iraq and WMDs. Assad has said UN inspectors can go and inspect. UN inspections didn't help Saddam because the evidence was faked and the invasion went ahead anyway.

I doubt Assad used chemical weapons. He was winning the war. The rebels may have used it then blamed Assad as a last resort which will have worked if everyone else jumps in. I would say the west know this anyway, hopefully Russa, Iran and China don't jump in also.

The Syrian rebels have been receiving arms from a variety of sources, including al qaeda. So it is not that contrived that they do have a delivery method. Or they might not need one. If they have the weapons and explode them from within their own territory, they do not need a delivery method.
Why now. Because they have now lost and the only way back is to drag us in. Worth sacrificing a few Jhadists for.

I can't really answer that, I don't do warfare except occasionally table-top/ video games. But at the very least, if there is any possibility of restoring and maintaining peace it should be explored.

I can't really answer that, I don't do warfare except occasionally table-top/ video games. But at the very least, if there is any possibility of restoring and maintaining peace it should be explored.
