Do you agree that the welfare system, the concept of which at first was a blessing, has now created a monster, as has been shown in this tragic case?
It has created a completely different species of human being, as has been shown with the various individuals interviews over this case, they tend to have a different look from the norm, so much so that some are have even been given a name, 'CHAVs'.
These are not the usual 'poor', in fact there are many who live in council houses, (now called social housing) who may not be 'well off' but are decent hard working people, who not only take a pride in themselves but also tend to live to a certain standard of morals.
/// Philpott had also fathered another six children by three other women. As far as can be known, he never contributed so much as a penny towards the upkeep of any of these 17 children, all of whom were born into dependency on state benefits. ///
/// His story throws into surreal relief the row between the Tories and Labour this week about Iain Duncan Smith’s much-needed benefit reforms. While the Left and the Church cry that they are unfair and immoral, the Government argues calmly that what is immoral is leaving families such as Michael Philpott’s to languish on benefits for generations. ///
/// Indeed, Philpott never even attempted to find a job. The children owed their existence to his desire to milk the welfare system. ///

Money was spent on food, rent and clothing. Nothing on cigarettes, alcohol or holidays. We initially lived in a Nissan Hut on a POW camp and then after 3 years got rehoused in a pre-fab. There were no benefits, and until 1948 no NHS. We were dirt poor but didn't consider we were in poverty. Poverty was kids not going to school because they had no shoes.

And neither have I said so, I was simply pointing out that some of these 'never worked in their life' individuals are different from the norm.
Neither have or the Daily Mail columnist used the deaths of these children to get over any special agenda, the case has been widely discussed on other threads and I have given my thoughts about this case on one of those threads.
This separate thread has only used this case as the subject in which to make an example of the abuse of the Benefit System, since before Phillpott became the killer of his children, he also attracted wide media coverage as a typical benefit scrounger.
I repeat again this is in no way cheapens the deaths of these children to get over mine and the Daily Mail Columnist's point.

it has taken what was a brilliant concept, help the needy and turned it on it's backside. I don't think most are like that vile man, but it does beggar the question if some never worked but should have, could have, not in anyway disabled, too ill. why were they ever given anything. It makes working for a living, putting food on the table and paying your bills a total nonsense to those who have done it, and still do, if they see others getting a totally free ride. Fair should be fair, and in some cases, it isn't.
and now we see how this has been laid bare, that some will be squished by the state, and have their benefits reduced, those who have made a decent contribution, yet others who have contributed nothing at all will still be there in housing and getting help.

well that bloke has not had to do much, 17 kids and how many of those left will sadly follow in his footsteps, i hope none, but sometimes this seem to be how it works, dad doesn't work, can't be arsed, passes that onto a child, not always of course, some get out of it, but some do not. How very sad.
he was 21 when he was in the army, don't know how long he served but seeing as he was caught for this crime of almost killing his girlfriend, it couldn't have been long. He is a vile, bullying control freak, who should have got longer than seven years the first time, if you read the injuries his 17 year old girlfriend received.

/// difficult to say in relative terms sqad, but as 47% of the entire welfare spend goes on state pensions, would it be reasonable to suggest we've created several generations of "different species of human beings" in pensioners? ///
I can only presume that sqad had his tongue firmly in his cheek when he said "but it sounds "intellectual"
And here is another intellectual answer.

/// Hi squad- humbersloop is saying that if indeed the welfare system 'has created a completely different species of human being' then that would include pensioners since 47% of welfare spending actually goes on state pensions. ///
Does this pair realise that in no way can pensioners be compared with the modern day benefit scroungers (the other species), since the present day pensioners who are in receipt of a state pension, have paid into the system not only in cash but also in public service, ie WW2 armed services, and later by National Service.
So they have every right to a State Pension, they have earned it, more than can be said for the work shy of today, who expect the state to fully provide for them, when they haven't contributed a morsel to the kitty.

Totally agree with you about pensioners AOG. My Dad worked damned hard all his life well into his 70's and paid his way all that time (like many others). Isn't that why people pay NI to ensure a decent pension in their old age ?? No way in this world can pensioners be compared to the lazy work shy who expect everything for nothing !
I'm sick of people picking on pensioners!
