Agree completely Sqad, I don't think that was one of them though, I mostly just endanger myself ;0)

A touch of common sense may have gone down well though. That said... I wish for a happy ending.

To be honest divegirl without knowing the layout where the houses are I wouldn't necessarily be laying into the parents about that. It was 7.00 not midnight and if like in the village where I live there is a cul de sac which is so small as to have pretty much no traffic down it, then it might not be as remiss as you think. My friend lives in such a house and anytime up until about 9.00 when I visit him there are droves of little kids playing out there because their parents consider it safe as there is no traffic and the houses surround the spot so plenty of people about. It's easy to be wise after an event. I just hope she's found safe and well.

Fair enough, but, my kids at age 5 were in bed by 7 on a school night.....
divegirl.....ours also....aged 5....in bed.

However, there is a different attitude towards bringing up children now, as i am constantly reminded on AB.
When I was five, I was in bed by half seven.
Its terrible and I hope she is found safe - but to allow a five year old out unsupervised at 730!!!

She should have been in bed - its a school night.
I was expecting to read that the parents had split up so one of them had most probably snatched her against the other's wishes, but it appears not. How sad, another case like little Madeline. God bless that little family and bring April home safely x
As Noxxy's said, it could've been a quiet cul de sac, she could have been with older children and therefore perceived to be safe. What we do or don't do with our children is irrelevant.

Let's not demonise the parents without knowing any facts.
Heartbreaking, just watching it on the TV, what an absolutely fabulous community they have there, so many people have turned up to help search. My kids were always in bed by 7.30, but there were the odd occasions when they were up later, it's irrelevant really, abductions can happen day or night, especially if it's someone local. I've crossed everything for a happy ending.
I don't think anyone is demonising the parents, B00. If she was with older children, why did they allow her to get into a van?
good morning folks.

after reading the piece, there is one fact that i am curious about ... the article quotes that she was seen 'getting into' the vehicle - not 'being placed into' the vehicle. that suggests to me that there is a possibility she may have known or been familiar with the driver.

i of course, join all of you in hoping she will surface safe and well.
\\\What we do or don't do with our children is irrelevant. \\

Right...........;-(
I think we are demonising them NoM, people seem to be inferring that her parents are bad ones as April wasn't in bed by that time.

And it is irrelevant what we do with our children at that time of day Sqad, how does that help in locating her?
Excel, the way the police were talking on the box this morning seemed to indicate that it is possibility, that could bring about a swifty conclusion, he may be at the search or be conspicuous in his absence.

I'm honestly not demonising them, as a parent who left her kids in a hotel room whilst having dinner once I have no right [my son was 10 at the time though but hey shlt still happens] and in that article it does sound like the mum thought she was at another childs house. I would have known! You can't trust kids at that age to be where they are meant to be.
BOO....it doesn't except that "And it is irrelevant what we do with our children" is the bottom line, as those parents who advocate the children being in bed, would not be in that position of looking for a missing child.

I agree with NoM we are not demonising them, just putting forward our perspective on the problem.
Obviously I hope she's found safely and I knew we would be admonished for saying she shouldn't have been out at that time at that age but the fact remains it is dark now at that time and clearly there were not responsible people around to see that she didn't get into anyone's car. Like it or not she should have been indoors at that age.
But it's not irrelevant, B00, as this case clearly illustrates.

I am not saying it's the parents' fault, but danger lurks around every corner and it's down to the parents to protect their children..
I don't have children but I suspect that there is fine balance between allowing them freedom and wrapping them up in cotton wool.

You can't win - no matter what you do. I will stick to my moggies.
