I heard a union leader today say that yesterdays strike had "universal support". How does he know what the people on Mars, Jupiter etc think of it

Ok I accept your point but substitute Australia or Thailand foy Mars and Jupiter
I think he was suffering from wishful thinking. I was in Canada yesterday and was watching Canadian and US tv. I didn`t see any mention of the UK strikes. North America was only interested in Kate and Wills yesterday!
support for the strikes is total in Thailand, only 86% in Australia

Quite. In fact, I don't recall ever seeing "universal" used in its literal sense.
