Has anyone tried it?
I had a bad night last night due to this stupid cough that won't go and I think with a good night I might feel so much better in the morning
Also - whats the herbal one like?
Not convinced by that one - but would love it to work

Oh no!
Its only for one night - prescription ones make me woozy
Tried most and non really work very well. I went to the GP for sleeping tabs (zopilclone) and its the best thing I ever did

What about anti hystemine - they are supposed to make you drowsy
Ric...I find nytol work really well for me. The packet says about 20 minutes before bed but I take them about an hour beforehand.
Nytol IS a anti-histamine.
Try it.......it won't do you any harm.
If you have a cough why not try NightNurse Nightime? It knocks you out and suppresses the coughing.

I always suspect cough medicines don't work
I rather like the suggestion of Retrochic.
Ric,Ror its not a 'cough medicine' as in a sugar syrup designed to soothe -NightNurse Nightime has 500mg of paracetamol with other ingredients that really do knock you out.

On your suggestion be it Sqad ;-))

BTW - NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED - I am coughing up a lovely colour but I don't need a doctor do I? Guess it will all calm down in a day or two?
If you know anyone in America, ask them to send you some Unisom. They work really well. You take one when you go to bed - unlike 20 minutes before with Nytol, during which time you might get a second wind - lie down and fall asleep.
However, as it's a cough keeping you awake, try NightNurse, as has been mentioned.
Sqad yes I bet you know exactly what to do with a Night Nurse. ;-)
If you feel well....moderately well, have no temperature, then you do not need a Dr at the moment.
Monitor the situation for the rest of the week.

Retro.....or better still, someone dressed up as a nurse ..night or otherwise ;-)

I better be ok for Friday - I'm 38 again on Friday
when i saw the header, i thought i'd regressed 3 years - "nytol" is how a prominet ex-user used to address his night-time thread.....
If your cough is worse at night try raising your pillows a bit so you're elevated. Because you tend to get warmer sleeping flat which starts off the mucus and tickly throat. Raising your pillows might help. And suck a cough pastille before you go to sleep. If you must take medication I find lemsip sometimes helps soothe the throat.
Lettuce is reputed to aid sleep, the milky sap in lettuce contains an opium-like substance called lactucin that can help induce sleep and relaxation.
Whether this is true, I've no idea. Personally I favour alcohol, which comes in a myriad of convenient forms.
