Never thought I'd have to ask this Q because my H always reckons a map will surfice, it seems he's changed his mind...
Q is, He's now considering getting a Sat-Nav not an all singing dancing one but one that would help for days out in the summer, visiting folks in a 50ml vicinity, not too complicated....
Any recomendations folks? perhaps £60 - £100 mark?

Tom Tom works for me. Garmin is said to be good too. Halfords have a good range and you can browse and ask questions there.

Thanks McM. Yes we're hoping to go to Halfords (when we can find it) we're new to the area.

I have a Tom Tom no complaints I think they have some offers at Halfords at the moment when you can find it you need a Sat Nav!!!
I have a garmin Nuvi 1300 Bought from Halfords (see link below). Personally a simple, easy to use, widescreen satnav. I to am the printed map generation and wifey bought me this one in 2009. i feel lost without it now. when away on holiday we fancied a sunday roast, so went through the menu and found a lovely little carvery not that far away. Personally I feel its one of the best satnavs on the market.

Yes go for Garmin, much better than the overrated TT.
Have a look on EBay before going to Halfords Jem, you can pick up some good deals on there.
buy something cheap - i wanted to upgrade my satnav but all the ones i looked at had out of date maps - new roads that have been named for over a year couldn't be found - and a 6month old new build post code wasn't available either - so i kept the old one.
My Garmin allowed me one free map upgrade GSR600, but I didn't realise for over a year - ideal really that I got the maps upgraded later.
just get one with Postcode input, not like my bleedin German comedy Satnav! Tom Tom is fine, highly recommended!
Which? cheapest Best Buys are both Garmin: the Nuvi 205W (£73) and the Nuvi 1310 (at about £100).

Found Halfords after asking people, Anyway H is now the proud owner of a Sat-Nav
Garmin Nuvi 1300. The Halfords guy spent best part of half an hour explaining and demonstrating, said it sells better than the TT.
Thankyou all for your comments and replies.
