I've just realised that it's over 3 years since I was given for 3 points on my licence. Do I have to do anything like sending the paper part of the licence back to the DVLA or does it just happen automatically? Thanks.

they remain on the paper licence for 4 years, when you can then send it in to get them removed. they cease to be for "totting up" purposes after 3 years.
If you don't send the licence off they will always appear on there

Gotcha bednobs. Cheers.
I've never understood the reason for them ramining for 4 years if they only count for 3!
Hi,

Mostly the penalty points will stay on your driving licence till four years from the date of conviction

Example: Date of conviction is 28 May 2004 – the endorsement must stay on the licence until 28 May 2008.

To remove the points on the licence you have to apply it for exchanging your driving licence for getting new driving licence

Sometimes expired endorsements are automatically removed when you apply to renew or update your licence for other reasons.

Hope this will help.

for insurance purposes you have to declare points for 5 years, and it does bump up your insurance.
