is it the norm for sparrows to be building a nest at at this time of the year?

YES ,sparrows will build nests at this time , especially if they have been disturbed from their old one .Sparrows can lay eggs 2 or three times in the spring and summer.

I have sparrows eagerly collecting the dog hair I have brushed out. It does seem much later this year. Normally this is over by now.
promise of a good weather when birds start another clutch.

sorry for the delay in replying. been away. the bird in question is a dunnock and is still on the nest. thanks for the reply.
