I will try not to ramble:
A few year ago, I was stood at the roadside, finishing off an engine rebuild on a Rover V6 and we were chatting about cars. The car was jacked up with one wheel off the ground. Scott, his car, needed to open the passenger door to retrieve his house keys. I told him about how when the Austin Allegro first came out, the motoring press did the same thing: open a door with a wheel off the floor. When they did this, the front windscreen (windshield for US) popped out. The bodyshell lacked torsional rigidity (it was too flimsy) and the uneven forces ejected the glass screen which shattered.

A few minutes later, one of Scotts friend's drove up in a Fiat Punto. It was missing the front windscreen glass...

'You'll never guess what just happened. I accidently got stuck in a ditch. The AA came with the tow-truck and as they were recovering the car, I opened the door and this happened. The front window glass fell out and shattered.'

In 45 years as a mechanic, I've only heard the Allegro story just the once and I've never seen/heard of this happening to anyone else.

I do have some really spooky tales of coincidence. If anybody replies, I will tell a few...

when I was on a council - after about four years, some other councillor spoke out and said " I agree with PP" - the first time any one had done it - it was realllllllly weird. Interviewing someone forty years ago, I pointed to his hand - cour fingers and scrunched phalanges ( are you following me so far?). I asked him how he had done it - " Fighting for the Germans." he...

My stepdaughter has, the consultant said, no discernable pituitary gland. So, we were supposed to be going on holiday the next day and I was meant to fix the passenger seat. Her legs accumulate so much fluid that she needs the front seat to go as far back as poss.
And I'd clean forgotten to do so. When I did remember, I found that the previous owner had broken one of the rods required for this adjustment to happen. The driver's seat one was not the same...

I thought about lying and telling them that it was already as far back as it could go. I attempted to operate the mechanism with pliers, but it was so cramped working on my fragile back, I gave up.

I then recalled that I was meant to collect my wife's prescription from the pharmacy. Do I need to concoct further fibs?
No!
The pharmacy was just about to close as I pulled up. Just in time!

When I returned to my car, I noticed something in the muddy grass, next to the postbox.

It was a control rod from a BMW E36 front passenger seat. Really. Not possible!

I bought the car two days before the first lockdown. Since then, I have seen three other BMW E36s on the road.
The specific part is unique to this model.

Okay, not very 'oooooer', but not summat that happens on a daily basis. On planet earth.
And way too boring tale to be made up.

JHC I'm a boring git. Night.

There are quite a few grumpy gits on AB you will fit in well.

At least your stories are easy to understand and funny. A good sense of humour is essential.

Douglas has perfected one liners - its the Scottish blood that keeps him so cheerful.

#me too
I'm a grumpy old man

Driving to meet a friend, I was listening to a fascinating discussion about a book I'd never heard of but was intrigued by. Upon arriving at my destination, my friend and I wandered into a second hand book shop and the first book I spotted was …. that one. I bought it of course.
My best friend died in England on the same day my wife's best friend died in Germany - the didn't know one another.
"the car was banned from the Mersey Tunnel as its chassis was too weak to be towed."
I was renewing my car insurance once in an office at the same time a bloke next to me was being told he was uninsurable due to his driving record.
A few weeks later I was involved in a car accident caused by the same bloke.
Right outside the same insurance broker I happened to be driving past at the time
In 1953 Blackpool defeated Bolton 4-3 in the FA Cup final - a match often referred to as the “Stanley Mathews final”
On May 14 2011, cup final day, unusually league games were also played. In the final Stoke City, the team Matthews was most associated with, were playing Man City.
Blackpool were playing Bolton that day:
The result; 4-3 to Blackpool
I was decorating my newly-acquired bungalow with help from my friend Susan. The phone rang and & the caller said "Hi Dave - is Susan there?" I handed the phone to Susan, but it was a wrong number!

(Having just moved in almost no one knew my phone number anyway.)
I decided to phone a friend and as I was about to ring her, she rang me.
Eeeeeh! It makes you think!
That phone a friend coincidence has probably happened to most of us over the years milo
My friend's brother had decided to adopt a cat. Later that week he opened his shed for the first time in about a month and a cat walked out.

The cat (Gizmo) adopted his new human on the spot and they are still living together and doing well.

Isn’t it lovely that we have a new member who’s gotten to grips with the intricacies of AB so quickly, bits and girls! Welcome welcome one and all.
Mrs NJ and I went on holiday to India. Met a couple from Scotland with whom we had a few drinks and dinner once or twice. Liked the place. Decided to return the following year. Gulf War broke out. Couldn't go to India (civil aircraft would not overfly much of the Middle East). Decided to go to Kenya instead. Went there. Met same couple who had chosen the same hotel and the same weeks as us.

discussed at length in a book called 'synchronicity' by C G Jung. Bit of a read - I cdnt get past chap 5....
and then the phone rang and my dead grandfather said, I have this book by one of Freud's contemporaries.....
thank god people dont understand what I write
I have related this story before.

I was waiting outside a pub for a lift. I noticed a wallet in the road being run over by traffic, and retrieved it.
When I opened it, there were debit/credit cards in my name, from my bank. It had £200 in it , which is when I realised it wasn’t mine :-)
Someone with the same name as me had lost their wallet and I found it.
New girl started at work with the same surname as me (this is 40 miles from where I grew up) she’s not directly related but lives next door to my Aunty. Weird.

Another girl I worked with came to join the company. Had a northeast accent. Got chatting and she’s the daughter of someone I was in the same year as at high school. Also she’s God daughter if one of my best friends growing up.
Zacs, you have an Aunty Weird?

My nephew has a Crazy Aunty Wolf!
