no one seems to have answered properly
1) there is no such thing as a pre MOT (officially)
2) Your MOT runs until it's expiry date
3) You can have an new MOT at any time, if it fails see point 2)
4) if you want your new MOT to be contiguous with your old one then you can present it up to N days before (not sure about N someone said it above)

so if you do 4) and it...

You`re booking it in for an MOT
Depends what you asked for!
You can have an MOT up to 4 weeks in advance of due date.

An M.O.T, dot.......you can take it a full month before its due to expire also.....as long as you take it in for it before it the expiry date.......no such thing as a pre M.O.T x

actual MOT.
They will run new MOT from expiry date of the old one [providing you take it along at the time]

but i don't canary, hence the question
yogi: some garages WILL do a check before your MOT (and charge of course) and call it a pre-MOT.
....so you could have had 13 months M.O.T if you'd chosen to have it done on the 7th November instead....I always take our cars in early, in case of work to be done and have a service beforehand too.

sorry must be tired i'm confused now, can someone make the answer all in one as i'm getting a mixed message i think
If you look on your MOT form it will tell you the date you can take it for the new MOT. You are only 4 days away from the MOT date , you can have it MOT 'd 4 days early. When you book you specify if you want an MOT or just a pretest check. I think you can get a new MOT about 10 days early so you are fine.
I stand corrected Gingejbee..and thanks as didnt know that...never had one...its either gonna pass or fail anyway....why pay twice? lol
You can take your car away for repairs etc. the old mot is still good, unless the problem is regarded as dangerous by the MOT tester, then the vehicle stays put for repairs or is towed/recovered to a garage/whatever for repairs.

It's an MOT but your old MOT remains valid, it's still failed. I would read this.
You might get away with it but then again you might not.
http://www.confused.com/news-views/blogs/can-you-drive-your-car-if-it-has-failed-mot
As long as you have booked it for an MOT and take it on the 3rd then the new MOT will start on the 8th (as long as it passes of course) and yes if it fails then you can still drive it until midnight on the 7th.
Only you know what you have booked . it is possible to book a pre MOT at some garages. But I am pretty much certain that you have booked an actual MOT.
