By definition it can only be a "witch hunt" if those accused are innocent. That may yet be so, but certainly if it's now a police matter then for this case it's potentially more serious than just a lewd comment or hand-on-the-knee.
At any rate, it's sensible to investigate such claims.
I suppose it is a sort of clearance - but the pity is that it had to happen at all. I was raised (as was everyone of my generation) to think that people sought public office through altruistic motives and were more than fairly rewarded as a result. Peccadilos were 'understood' as rare offshoots by maverick politicians.
This uncovering of the venality of so many politicians is truly horrific and destabilising - just at the time when we need certainty and unity.
Perhaps it is time for a reminder that people are innocent until proven guilty and a general pull -back from the growing hysteria?
he says the party told the press before they told him. Tories are also saying May or someone close to her must have briefed the press about Fallon. I find this very unpleasant: MPs are at each others' throats and frantically throwing colleagues to the wolves. (The same may be true of Labour but I've not heard anyone say so yet.)
It is a total witch hunt across all Parties that has got out of control. Seems to me that some are using it as a way of stabbing people in the back they hate. Quite normal in the Banking industry (I have been stabbed by the best in the Investment Banking arena)
This has to stop. We have innocent until proven guilty yet we are seeing both labour and Tories being treated as guilty simply on the say so of others. Totally unacceptable.
However on this one it appears Plod are finally involved so we shall have to wait and see.
