... I have an allergy to wasp stings - which could kill me. I had a bad frightening experience with an earwig crawling in my mouth (don't ask...) as a child, and yet it is spiders that I am frightened of?
I can have a wasp land on my neck & stay relatively calm & cool (no point panicking - that would be daft), I can pick up an earwig no problem, yet show me a picture of a tarantula or have a harvest spider hover round me & I squeal like a stuck pig. Daft aren't they - irrational phobias.
I hate all spiders, even weeny ones, and anything reptilious. I don't have a great affinity for cats because of my allergy. But I adore doggies........
I'm beginning to be less scared of the 'small' ones - i.e. <1.5cms. But anything bigger - ahhhh! I have no guilt whatsoever in bashing them to bits with whatever heavy object is to hand - never mind all this "putting it outside" - the ****** will only come back again.
I used to live on a farm and, after stubble burning was banned, one year I counted 17 harvest spiders in just a month. Darn things used to lie in wait for me on the stairs I swear it.
Ever since watching that spider crawl over Carly in I'm a celebrity, my dislike of the 8-legged beings has intensified. I feel no compunction whatsoever in hoovering the little blighter up!!!
Salla are you my twin? I'm allergic to wasp stings, but it's spiders that really do my head in. I was brought up on a farm and we used to get those humungous big black things with legs about 2 inches long. I HATE them. I also have to bash them into about 22,000 pieces. I work on the basis that the house is not big enough for the two of us and I pay the damn mortgage (but reasoned conversation never works with those hairy sods so I have to resort to uncontrolled violence).
If you don't bother them, they wont bother you. Saying that I was walking through Chatsworth with 4 kids, 6 dogs & 4 adults some years ago, & we came upon a wasp nest that a badger had been digging out. We all legged it, & luckily the kids didn't get stung. I did though...18 times..ouch!
Barmaid - I believe we may be from the same gene pool...!
umm... I know I'm going to be bamblasted for this - but when I was little, my friend Lil & I used to put salt on slugs to watch them dissolve. We called it our science experiment, our mothers called it wanton cruelty. It was rather fascinating though.
(I also pulled the wings of flys, but didn;t we all - or was that usually a boys-only thing?)
ouch Carrust! Mind you a friend of mine was trying to deal with a nest in just his shorts. He was badly stung, including several on his delicate man's bits!!!!!!!!!!!
