22 boxes, 22 different sums of money from 1p to 250.000 & 22 contestants that can stand there for quite a while before being picked, contestant is picked, they take their box to the playing table, they then choose boxes from the other contestants and hope they have small amounts in their box so they have a greater chance to win big money!

The banker phones after each round and offers an amount to the contestant to buy their box, they can either deal or no deal!

I've probably confused you even more with that answer, sorry!!
ok ,the 22 people select a box each at random. they know each other only because they never leave the show until they have played the game. so each box is worth from 1p to 250,000 pound. noone knows what is in the box including the banker, a man on the phone who's job it is to try and give away as little money as possible.after selecting a box, that box is eliminated from the game and so too the contents. after five boxes have been picked ,the banker will call with an offer of cash to tempt the player to deal.the game then carries on with the same precedure only the calls come after 3 boxes are picked. the higher the boxes left ,the higher the offer from the banker. all i can suggest now is to watch it more and the rest will fall into place. it really is easy to follow.
dont worry i was stuck the first time i watched it.
just keep watching it and you'll pick it up.
the basics:: there are 25 contestants who are the people on the sides - they stay there till they get there go so some people have been there for 10/20 shows!! sometimes even as many as 50!
at the beginning of the show the computer randomly selects one of the 25(i think) contestants for it to be their turn, that person go to the table in between the 2 sides - the east & west wings as they call them. they go with their box.
each of the 25 contestants are randomly given a box with different sums of money in, ranging between 1p - 250,000
basically the contestant who is at the table has to pick boxes and hope that they are blue numbers- between 1p and 750 (i think). they pick 5 boxes per round, then the banker phones and gives them an offer. so the banker will phone up and lets say offer 1,000 to leave the game then and not play on. the more blues you knock out by picking the boxes the higher the offer.
you can either take the offer or play on, and play right to the end and get the amount of money in your box.
the banker is just an unknown person.
hope this helps you. you're really best jsut watching it a couple of times and picking it up, i really didnt get it but months down the line and now im loving it!
hope you manage to pick it up and are gripped too!
:-)
oops sorry just posted that while two other people posted too! i got some numbers mixed up - 22 contestants not 25!!

So the box the person has in front of them does not count? It is not in the game?

and the box that they are left with is what they win?

If a contestant gets right to the end without dealing, then they keep whatever's in their box. (Actually, it's slightly more complicated than that - when there are only two sealed boxes left, they normally get the option to swap their box for the other one. But whichever box they have on the table at the end, that's the amount they win.)
Actually, Deal or No Deal is probably the hardest game show to explain, ever! I think this is a pretty good attempt, though: http://www.ukgameshows.com/page/index.php/Deal _or_No_Deal
