Are people willingly missing the point of the OP? I'm sure that weecalf doesn't "need" to touch the body of a stainless steel kettle containing boiling water...but a hand or arm can accidentally touch it. (A non-metallic kettle doesn't feel nearly as hot - and I have one that is labelled "cool-touch"...it is dual-walled and came from Lidl).

Show me a kettle where the outside does not get hot!
this just in: kettles get hot!
i guess you could try to take it back but don't use such a lame excuse when you speak to them!
I’ll show you a few, Tora:
Amazon.com User Recommendation

But yes, most get hot.
the handle shouldn't get hot
Well Bonnet de douche zacs!
Mange tout, Tora, mange tout.
had my stainless kettle for yonks - never burnt myself on it (yet)
you should have known
careful also because frying pans get hot when on the stove top
Did you buy one that says it won't get hot on the outside?
This OP shows why manufacturers put glaring obvious warnings on things. e.g. watch out your coffee is hot.

Yes, you should have realised.
Mine gets hot on the outside but they have supplied it with a handle, genius!
the plastic type gets hot but not to burn you and easier to pour being tall and a side handle
does the water make your tea wet too?
what a kettle gets hot when it boils?
I am gonna start calling myself 'Einstein'
You might be able to find a No Win No Fee solicitor prepared to take it on as a Blame and Claim case - it's quite the fashion these days for the Judiciary to overlook Common Sense.
I didn't realise a ceramic hob remained hot after you switch it off...... until I leaned on mine.
But, yeah, touching a boiling kettle is a bit daft.

Aye sure Then why do toasters not burn you then Eh
Why do you need to touch the kettle other than the handle part?
Because the element is a fair way from the sides. And most do get fairly warm, especially the top.
