Is Jeremy Clarkson really as lacking in General Knowledge as he makes out.Christine Ohorugu asked him what a “Ruby” was.He said correctly it was Ruby Murray which rhymes with curry but I have no idea who Ruby Murray was you’ll have to Google it.

Ruby Murray was the first singer to have 5 records concurrently in the Top Twenty.
Why isn’t saucepan very PC?
I would only expect the older generations to know who Ruby Murray was. She was a pop star before Clarkson was born.
Saucepan lid = quid.
What is non PC about that?
I knew the murray/curry connection but then I'm old enough to know the name Ruby Murray but there was a very early question about Eastenders that I couldn't have answered. We don't all have the same knowledge, I often find that there are questions on quiz shows where not only couldn't I answer them, I am no nearer understanding when I hear the answer! On Pointless there were 16 photos of which I recognised only Ed Sheeren because he has an interesting face, been about his music I would have been at a total loss.
Surely saucepan lid is kid? My family often referred to 'seeing the saucepans' at the weekend.
You don't have to know who the people were to use their name in rhyming sland - eg how many people know what 'on me todd' means but don't know who Todd Sloan was? Same with 'not on your Nelly'.
*slang! Wish they had an edit button on here.
Just Googled and see it means kid and yid.
So not very PC, I suppose.
Only known it as quid.
Cockney rhyming slang was around long before PC and it is added to a lot now.
Never understood the need for rhyming slang. Why not just say the word - which is usually shorter than the rhyme anyway. Just speak plain English and there will be no confusion.
